As one of the NIB account holders I'm starting the process of changing to a new bank. A friend mentioned why not open up an account up the north, that a Euro account can be opened and the annual fees may be less than having a bank account in the Republic. He suggested that this was done by people years ago. So just asking…

You can open EUR bank accounts, with some banks, in NI, with RoI proof of address.

The problem is that they are savings accounts and not current accounts.

If you need a EUR savings account, you are better off opening an account here due to higher rates.

If you need a EUR current account, with an Irish ATM card, you will not be able to open it up north.
