No there isn't, if you've never seen it, what difference does it make how long it's been out?

None, is the answer by the way.

The difference is that if it's been out for years, then you'll have had a lot more chances to catch up with it. I would've thought that was obvious

But there is no difference to someone who hasn't seen it. For example, I only saw Battlestar Galactica last year, that's nearly 10 years after it first came out. If someone had spoiled the ending for me it would have been the exact same to me as someone spoiling Love/Hate last night or this morning.

Personally I think the longer something is out, the more it's fair game to be spoiled. It's just common sense. There was a thread on here where someone 'spoiled' Les Miserables and another poster went nuts, it's been in the public domain for 150 years like! Yeah it's all the same to someone who hasn't seen it but... c'mon.

C'mon what? Either it's ok to spoil stuff or it isn't. If it's not ok to spoil something a day later then it's not ok to spoil it a year later.

The main spoiler i remember from recently was near the end of season 3 in Game of Thrones. This had been in a book for a decade or so and 99% of those readers kept their mouth shut.

They all knew what was coming and all kept their mouths shut. within seconds twitter and facebook had it ruined for anyone who hadn't seen it.

I was a book reader and that nearly killed me, but I knew how good it'd be watching it with people who didn't know. It was worth it, oh my god, the tears, the swearing, my own maniacal laughter because now they knew my pain too.

I think the statute of limitations on Breaking Bad spoilers is pretty much up, it's one of the most widely discussed shows I can think of in recent years so people know the risk they're taking by not watching it and talking to people.

Irish people absolutely freak the hell out when it comes to spoilers, to the point where if I even bring up Breaking Bad in conversation at least one person will cover their ears and start talking really fast. Yet when it comes to Love/Hate, they will lovingly tweet, create memes and Facebook post jokes about major character deaths, all in real-time during an episode. Just checked my Twitter feed from last night and for the fourth (I think it was fourth) year running I've had the major event of a Love/Hate finale spoiled for me, by about 5-6 people, I should add. I've never actually seen the show but I don't see the point now!

Is Love/Hate such a big show in Ireland that the rules of spoilers no longer apply, that it's just assumed that everyone is watching it at the same time? Does that make it OK? I don't think it does at all.

Is this the same Twitter feed where the same people have been discussing every other episode in real time :eek: Everyone was watching it and commenting on it - what did you expect. Stay away from Twitter if you want to avoid it.

PS: even if you know what's happened its still well worth watching.

I posted about the ending of Se7en in film forum earlier this year and got a bollocking from another poster and then the mod said I wrong to discuss the film due to spoilers.

That film came out 17 years ago!!

Stay away from Twitter, Reddit, Boards and Facebook if you want to avoid TV spoilers. You've only got yourself to blame otherwise.

Why is it either one or the other? Why not have a statute of limitations on spoilers? Why so serious?

    Love/hate is sh1t.

Really; I'v never watched it myself; wont bother now.

Just watched it there, managed to go 24 hours without anybody spoiling it.
Don't go on Twitter OP if you want to avoid spoilers, especially on stuff that is trending on it.

Mad Men's Don Draper : What you call love was invented by guys like me, to sell nylons.

Who cares, Love/Hate is beyond sh1t anyway.

Nidge and the boys don't get the shipment

The episode is out. If you didn't see it tough luck, don't expect everyone to be quiet about it.

    spoiler alert

The worst is the newspapers, both the star and independent released major spoilers before the episode even aired. You kind of know not to go near facebook when there's an episode of a big series on, its only natural people are going to talk about it, but you don't expect to see spoilers splashed across the front page of a national newspaper before the show is even shown on TV

Posting spoilers is just inconsiderate. Simple as that.

You're not smart or funny. You have just happened to see a popular TV show / film.

Anywhere Film & TV is discussed, spoilers are routinely used regardless of how old the content is.

I think its a given that people should avoid facebook, forums, twitter and blogging sites. I go into blackout mode. What i didnt expect, what i think is appaulling is national newspapers printing major spoilers in their headlines. Or even pictures that give away the storyline.

Im in Australia at the moment and have to wait until after work on monday afternoon to catch the episode (a full 11hours after the episode has been shown). I try to keep up to date with news back home by checking out headlines on independent.ie during smoko. Twice the independent has published spoilers for two different episodes. furious, i decided to switch to irishtimes.com and had the finale spoiled by Ronan Mcgreevy in the culture section, there was another article by bernice harrison with a picture giving the plot away. Its so inconsiderate and something you don't expect from a nationally respected "paper of record". I checked the independent to see if they spoiled the finale too. Nope they finally done the decent thing and included a warning. Typical... load of bs

As others have alluded to when they review movies they dont include the ending in the headline. Imagine if the guardian published
    "snape kills dumbledore"
, 4hours after the book is released to the general public. Its such bad form and i dont know why irish Media do it

Do Irish people have nothing better to talk about than what they see on the telly? Oh yeah....the weather.

Hang on a second now, are people really saying you pretty much shouldn't use the internet until you're fully up to date with whatever tv shows you watch? That's just crazy. Spoilers seem to only be becoming more prevelant in the last couple of years.... I wish everyone could just use a bit of common sense.

I had to hide Walking Dead's official page from my timeline this week because they spoiled their own show (before it was even finished airing in some parts of the states, nevermind here). That's just bad social media tactics.

Ah here, if ever there was an example of hypocrisy!

Can't believe love/hate gets himself locked up deliberately at the end

What? Commentary on current affairs? Should the entire media not comment on something because you didn't see a particular show?

    "Contains spoilers."
Two wee words at the top of the article or in the first line that stops all this.
    Simple, courteous, common sense.
