Irish people are hypocrites when it comes to Love/Hate spoilers

Irish people absolutely freak the hell out when it comes to spoilers, to the point where if I even bring up Breaking Bad in conversation at least one person will cover their ears and start talking really fast. Yet when it comes to Love/Hate, they will lovingly tweet, create memes and Facebook post jokes about major character deaths, all in real-time during an episode. Just checked my Twitter feed from last night and for the fourth (I think it was fourth) year running I've had the major event of a Love/Hate finale spoiled for me, by about 5-6 people, I should add. I've never actually seen the show but I don't see the point now!

Is Love/Hate such a big show in Ireland that the rules of spoilers no longer apply, that it's just assumed that everyone is watching it at the same time? Does that make it OK? I don't think it does at all.

Just avoid Twitter, Facebook, email, newspapers, physical contact until you've seen what your interested in.

The worst for me is when I'm on nights, so sky plus everything..
It's like running a gauntlet trying to avoid spoilers..

I think it's because it's only shown in Ireland. With the likes of breaking bad, people understand that others are watching in different countries and mightn't see it for a day or two. They forget that other people aren't watching Love/Hate now and might have recorded it.

It's no different any where else.

The biggest hypocrisy I've seen was from the BBC. The morning after the Breaking Bad finale they had an article full of spoilers, only to publish an article 2 hours later on why people spoil episodes for other people. :rolleyes:

I dont see why people care? Love/hate is one of those shows that you can guess what will happen next. But BB wasnt like that at all. You can hardly expect your friend on fb, who has maybe 500 friends not to talk about a show just because you havent seen it.

I've managed to stay clear of Breaking Bad spoilers and am only half way through season 4. but then again I don't go on facebook or twitter or anything like that during or soon after a show.

I've had a few F1 races spoiled when i record them and then check the news but its my own fault.

The main spoiler i remember from recently was near the end of season 3 in Game of Thrones. This had been in a book for a decade or so and 99% of those readers kept their mouth shut.

They all knew what was coming and all kept their mouths shut. within seconds twitter and facebook had it ruined for anyone who hadn't seen it.

I know a guy who is a Garda sargent in a particular part of Dublin, who told me that when Love Hate is on the place is deserted until 10.30, then suddenly some gangland incident occurs.

There are magazines available that are devoted entirely to what's going to happen next in the soap operas. People that watch soaps seem to love knowing that someone is going to be killed or that there's going to be a fire in the Rovers. Even if you don't read those magazines you couldn't avoid reading the front cover if you happen to see one in a newsagents.

I don't watch soaps or read those magazines but after taking a cursory glance at one of the magazine covers I could tell you who is going to be killed off next in Coronation Street or who is going to reveal that they're gay in Eastenders.

I don't watch Love/Hate but I get the impression it's a violent soap opera.

If one thing drives me demented it's this "spoiler" lark and the actual sh*t-fits people get when they hear a storyline they haven't seen yet. Big f*cking deal. Get over it.

I was in work last month and mentioned about Bobby Bacala getting shot in The Sopranos and one girl I worked with actually flew into a rage as she was only on season three or something. The show finished when? Around six years ago now? Are we to be forbidden from discussing any show just because someone may not have gotten around to watching it yet?

So the entire nation should button it and say nothing until you get around to getting the box set to watch it yourself in your time.
Then and only then can people pass comment that has already been screened on TV despite been the talk of the nation for the last 6 weeks.

Let us know when you're ready OP so we'll all leave the Twitter machine alone in the meantime, lest you accidently read about anymore 'major events' for the fourth year running.

Your problem is you checked Twitter, what did you expect? It's the most watched TV programme in Ireland and the morning after the season finale it's going to be all over Twitter.

There's a big difference between 'spoiling' a show that's been on years and one that just aired last night.

Better idea, just avoid Love¦Hate. It's mostly blokes getting into and out of, or being parked in, cars anyway.
