So my last shop at Tesco for 95 items with 320.64 € spend resulted in a voucher of 0.04€.

According to the webpage of the 95 items not a single one was checked against Lidl and 3 items were checked against Aldi.

1 item was 4c cheaper in Tesco, 1 item was the same price and 1 item was 10c more expensive in Aldi, so I got 4 cent.

This is a joke they compared 3 out of 95 items with Aldi.

Why don't you provide with the receipt so we can judge?

All in all this is a pretty poor offer, it's not going to change behaviour for those of us who do shop regularly in Aldi or Lidl, so we should just be pleasantly surprised if we do get credits.
From Tesco's point of view, the less they can show the better, not from a refund point of view, but for those many loyal customers who haven't sampled the Germans yet. They get a refund of €0.01 and think to themselves, why would I bother heading away to Aldi for that!! For that reason, they probably don't kill themselves in making comparisons, if it isn't exactly comparable, then don't include it and since we don't know the criteria employed, we can't argue.

So, as I mentioned earlier, maybe better to forget about this thread, maintain your current shopping habits and gratefully accept any refund vouchers tesco issues you with.

I'm sure my personal NSA analyst has already reviewed the receipt and is as mad as me about this but I'm not going to share my items with the whole world of this board.

It's what it is, 3 items checked and 0.04€ voucher and with a new Lidl open around the corner even lazy me might just drop in there instead of Tesco.

the original Irish HB was named after a dairy run by the Hughes Brothers near Dundrum in Dublin- subsequently split into the icecream business HB and the dairy business (Premier milk- which obviously survives to this day).
Premier was taken over by Avonmore a long time ago.

It's the same milk, but the Avonmore brand is a lot more expensive for some reason.

The reason Tesco stopped buying Irish goods is because the Irish shoppers stopped buying them as they were too expensive.

If Irish people are so worried about Irish Jobs the solution is simple buy Irish where possible
That's Irish brand names. Next time you are in Aldi check for stuff with an Irish flag on it.

Apart from very perishable stuff like milk/bread/meat do Tesco buy much from local suppliers.

Fruit is a good way to compare prices/margins. Except bananas, because everyone follows Aldi's price.

Tesco had their chance, if it wasn't for ALDI/LIDL what would we be paying now!!!!

Can't believe this thread is still going...

if you haven't figured out/decided where you should be doing your weekly shop by this point even with all the evidence presented here, then you are wasting your money.

    aldi/lidl all the way.

This is a great site to find out what is really going on with both Aldi and Tesco. Without the hearsay and hype the haters and lovers give.

I always look for the Irish Flag in Aldi, it usually says produced in Ireland but the cynic in me says the box was produced in Ireland and the contents somewhere else...

Also whats the difference between produced and made in Ireland...

Sept 2013 - Over 50% of Aldi’s supplier spend is with Irish suppliers, producers and manufacturers

The Tesco spokesperson states in the article that "there are no plans to do something similar in the uk" but tesco are now comparing tesco prices against sainsburys Morrisons and Asda

Correct. Tesco are not even attempting to lure customers from Aldi or Lidl with this tactic. They know that regular shoppers in the German stores won't be taken in by it.

Tesco is simply trying to stem it's haemorrhage of customers to the Germans.

They can't, or won't, compete with Aldi and Lidl on price and, instead, are busy cutting costs to maintain their profit levels and are engaging in stunts like this to keep their remaining customers.

A Tesco that I visit removed 2 of it's human checkouts and added 3 extra self service ones, last week. Interesting development, given that it's approaching it's busiest time of year.

Tesco own brand buy very little outside perishable milk/bread/meat/veg from local suppliers. A few grocery lines like Juice and water. Hardly any non-food lines. Just look at Tesco Ireland buying team, most are now based in the UK.

Even branded products such as Kelloggs are now bought from Kelloggs UK as part of the Tesco Group sourcing rather than Kelloggs Ireland thereby saving Tesco Ireland money which they don't seem to have passed on.

On the point of comparing fruit prices it can get a bit messy with Class's and count. One thing Lidl and Aldi do well is cater for big fruit and veg. Irish consumers would historical go for large oranges and apples while the UK market would fine it difficult to sell large fruit.

I think I've copped what this is all about and apologies if this has been posted already as I've not read the whole thread.

There are enough conditions attached to when the price match kicks in that it won't apply to a large percentage of shoppers. Instead these shoppers will see all the ads and posters and have the warm and fuzzy feeling that Tesco are price matching - when they are doing nothing of the sort - I think that since this offer has started that prices have risen substantially on some items - e.g spring onions which are 1.50ish now having been 79c not so long ago.

Now if spring onions are in their promotion and they are 79c odd in ALDI/LIDL then Tesco will match the LIDL/ALDI price when you meet their conditions - otherwise they get to GOUGE you for nearly 100% over the odds - and all while these unqualified shoppers feel they're getting a good deal.

I used to like Tesco, but their sharp practices are a huge turn off.

Imm sort of I think. They must be doing the comparisons on own brand stuff like dishwasher tabs and so on.

I think what people some people are getting in a twist over is the small amount on the discount voucher.
Which really suggests that the items they picked are the same price to those in Aldi.
So . They are getting there knickers in a twist over noting really.

The whole quality thing between them is another thing altogether .
Im getting the overall feeling that people consider Aldi to be of better quality than Tesco everyday. Which after reading the comments from a few reputable posters on here its hard to argue against.

The real misleading thing I see . Is the fact we cant find out what these products are being matched against.

But if they do that. Aldi will sue them!!!!!!!

I've posted some examples, wish others would do the same so that we can get products at the Aldi/Lidl price in Tesco, avail of clubcard points, perhaps use coupons as well..to get a bargain as it were.

Was there anything cheaper in Aldi/Lidl? Post them up.

Last Saturday I did my weekly shopping in Tesco (purely out of convenience as we normally go to Aldi), and out of €95 spent, we got a 20 cents back. There were about 5 items that they claimed to have matched against Aldi & Lidl as the same price (banana and milk comes to mind), and some odd thing was 20c more and hence the refund. 80% of the items were not 'directly comparable'.

I am not surprised as I wasn't expecting it to be anything else anyway. On the plus side, I use Tesco Vouchers to buy Tesco Mobile credit (three times the value of the voucher) and get free calls to any network etc. So yeah, keep playing the system and shop wisely as always.

This is the scam of this whole marketing con job, they are trying to con people into thinking that most of their shopping is the same price in aldi and that if it is cheaper they will give a voucher for the difference.

Vic. Is that not a good result?

I hate to be the one stating the facts of the matter all the time and getting nailed for it. But the whole price promise thing is there to compare product prices from Aldi. Its not set up to give away free vouchers for loads of money.

Just spent 204 euro in Tesco. Got 1.40 voucher..

Im guessing it was the free range eggs Tesco pizza x 2 and milk.

Every thing else was branded products.

Got 10 euro off in mutibuy savings plus 2 euro in club card vouchers .

Can take a pic if anyone wants to try and figure out what the items are..

I know where you are with tesco Foggy. You have started many threads on the matter. But how is it a scam. Supervalue are doing it in the North and the Big 4 are all doing the whole price promise thing.

I know you have prove over weights and measures issues with fruit, but before you call a whole company screamers over a price promise promotion, I would expect a bit of proof of it.

If you dont have it, it all seems like a big rant about a big company from people who have had a bad experience.

    .

There is no need to guess.
just put the receipt details into www.tescopricepromise.ie
and it will give you a full breakdown on the items compared.

I've looked at most on mine and I have to say that the price comparison is on very few items.

It is all cloaks and daggers.
Tesco know that most customers won't go online to check the comparison.
Most customers don't even check the receipt they get instore.

and i like shopping in tesco!

Your 204 euro will go much further in Aldi and will probably result in better quality. Try it for a week.

SALTED PISTACHIOS 150G at 2.40 Aldi is 2.25

Free range eggs where a few cent different.

couple of others with only a cent in the difference.

    Its a Joke!

The only way to compare is this:

I spend €60 in Tesco, I get a bag of shopping

I spend €60 in Aldi, I get 3 bags of shopping

Dont need no feckin vouchers to figure that out!
