Sorry to jump in here but there are so many threads on this I don't know where to start. Was expecting an announcement on this in October but Octobers practically over now. Also I have a problem with with publicjobs.ie account and can't access it.

Anyone know when/if the announcement goes live what the first step for interested parties is?

September and October are now in the past, so was that statement about recruitment just an empty comment... hello November !!

I think nothing will happen till the election campaigns begin. Around February.

Well they should be made come out and tell the public that then. We the public elected them to represent the people of this state, and how can they be fulfilling that commitment when they won't give a straight answer and keep pushing it out, talking around the issue! Facts and officIal time scale we need....

Chances are the public have more pressing things to worry about.

Welcome to the public sector. Get used to it if you plan on a career as a Garda. Lots of "hurry up and wait".

Just shows the political manipulation of the police force.

Minister announces 350 new Garda cars . What business is it of his? He should be concentrating on law making and policy.
What next? 500 new staplers for the Dept of Justice?

Exactly. It shouldn't need to be announced. It should be ongoing.

Come on now, if you want to be a Garda you have to use your head. They want to win as many seats as possible next year and will do anything to do it. They'll use the re-opening of the Garda college as 'proof' that the economy is growing again.

Very true, that's the way the system works unfortunately!

The question hasent been answered yet, he asked for a time allocation for a debate on policing between now and Christmas break, that will put them going!

Who knows?? It has been a long wait, 4 years and it is hard to see it changing in the coming weeks, maybe I am been negative but I think it could well be another false dawn?? It's actually heart breaking this way, so many ups and a lot more downs during this wait.....

Having worked in Public sector post for the majority of my working life, I have found the following to be true.

All notifications for promotion courses, appointments or other eagerly awaited news are made on a Friday afternoon, when
    (a) most of those waiting have left the building, having taken the afternoon off
    (b) when the reader can do nothing about it but stew over the weekend,
    (c) when clarification of errors made on the notification cannot be queried, so the relevant department department won't be hounded by calls, seconds after it's release.

2 weeks before Christmas is similar to a Friday afternoon, in a competition of this scale so eagerly awaited.

it could also be BS and we'll be hear next November speculating about the same thing!

There must be very few guards in their early 20's by now? 4 years noone has been recruited and the average age for joining was somthing like 23. So the majority would be 27 - 28, New blood is needed lol

There can't really be anyone younger than 22, I'd say not many between 22 and 25
