Christ, 5 hours round knightsbrook in perfect conditions is crazy!!

You did well to get around in 5 hours. We teed off in Knightsbrook today at 11.40 & walked off the 18th at 5.25 pm!! Had to wait on every shot. The only good thing about that was the weather was good:)

Heard of a 41 in ladies & a 42 in mens when I was leaving abt 6.30 pm so I wld expect the scores to be higher than previous outings. But it isn't as tough a course as Monty or Royal Dublin

Played the one in The Heritage, can't recall the round taking too long over the odds, overall it was a good day, lots of prizes but to get the most out of it you need to play late and stay for the raffle prizes.

Hi played today and had a great time.organisation etc was spot on.shot a 38 with a scratch and left puts out there but was just one of those days.look forward to play again. but just a question...the winner of cat 2 (im cat 1) was a 10year old playing of 21 with 44 points...did he play of the ladies as juniors do or was he playing of the mens tees? shooting 8 better than handicap is sum goin and fair play to him, but since it was a mens and ladies tournament and IF he played from the ladies and you were in cat 2 do yo think it was fair as i said it was a mens and ladies tournament?? and again ill just say whatever tee he was hitting from that's sum shooting and fair play but just wondering....

Soon enough they'll have to consider spreading it over 2 days imo.

knightsbrook today very well run, slow, over 5 hours but weather was good as was company-should be 3 balls i think. cat 2 winner a 10 year old playing off 21 with 43 points. im cat 1 so no hard feelings on my part but if hes playing from ladies tees(not sure) how can he be scored same as mens- either way if i came second to him with chance to play in final in carton house id be upset. its a gents and ladies singles not juniors. i cant either junior comps so why should if be other way round. most golf clubs would only have 10 junior qualifilers a year so handicap wont be monitered as much.
also to organisers for the raffle, pick first winner and let that winner pick next winner and so on. looked to me as cards were just lined up in cup.just a thought!! - knightsbrook captain and lady captain both win prizes in raffle?? hmmmmm!!

Played Knightsbrook yesterday early and finished in just over 4 hours without breaking sweat and enjoying the refreshments. 4 ball behing was at lest 2 holes behind us. Agree prize structure is strange 2 of us had high 30s and didn't feature and other 2 played ok but each won a nearest the pin and won a motorised trolley and set of irons. Well run comp but should be a GUI affiliated comp considering all participants have to have a GUI handicap and is played on a measured course this would also ensure no bandits!

Look forward to playing in future events with more emphasis on the nearest the pins!!

i have been at two of the these raffles and yet to win anything, but to be fair of the six people at my table three won prizes last night reckon you had a one in three chance last night. they had a nine hole junior comp late yesterday evening off junior tees, so that ten year old lad must have been of mens tees. have to say 40 something was achievable in yesterdays ideal conditions.

Certainly was perfect conditions for a good score, I really struggled with the slow greens, haven't played parkland in a while and just could not get to grips with them.

Really enjoyed the course, it has really come on in the few years since I last played it.

There's a poster on here who took out 2 nearest the pins at one of these events. Next one we went to they had the ruling changed so nobody could take 2 of the same prizes.
I'm not gonna name him but he was terribly lucky on the day having hit a tree on one and in and out of a bunker on the other. ;);)

Haha. You've been waiting a while to post that dig !! :D

Not sure what your on about with the in and out of the bunker ? The ball was faded beautifully around the bunker.:P

Also, hitting a tree !?? You make it sound like a duff hook into the trunk of a big oak. I clipped the very top twig to take the speed out of the ball, and get it to land softly on the front of the green ! How else could you get close to a pin 4 ft on the green over a water hazard !??? :D I knew I should have called the shot before I played it !!;)

or when the organiser's father (i.e. guy calling out the names on the first tee!) wins a raffle prize at most outings............... & if not him, then the lads he plays with on the day!

yes!! why not let first winner pick second and so on so theres no conflict as with ant draw!!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3 devdevil007

    any draw!!!! i meant

They've done that previously, in their event in Carton House I think. But thats cause I think the guy pulled out 10 cards in a row and they weren't there to collect !

Anyway, I have to rely on my skills on the course to win rather than this lucky bo**ox draw ! :D

I've not played in any of the events but I know a few lads that have and one lad that made the final this year, by all accounts the outings are brilliant and the final over the two days was brilliantly run with a fabulous meal and entertainment.

No offence to high handicap golfers is meant but I personally think it's impossible for a golfer off a handicap of 23 to score 43 points followed by 39 points on those two course and with the wind that was blowing over the two days. It just hi lights yet again the cheating banditry that is rampant in Irish golf.
I'm not sure what can be done but something has to be done.

On the second day he had 22 on the front 9 then went 1 point for the next 4 holes then 16 points for the next 5 holes,

Not so windy there on Monday - but even so, it was very good shooting for a 23 h/c.

There were also two 42 pts on Monday on Monty but don't know what their h/c's were

Was it a very large field of players? would you not have over 40 points most days? It is only a birdie on a hole where you have 2 shot , you are talking 5 pts for that, hard to do, but on a large number of golfer that will happen, Another good hole for that person they have 40 at least.

so if there was a large number of players and many had 2 shots on holes , you will have 40pts +

I'd also say people were practicing way harder than normal as it was a big deal.

But considering they are championship courses, impressive.

It's not begrudery..... in fact it's not even begrudgery!!
It's just painful to see this kind blatant cheating going on and nothing being done about it.... and the fact that people just go "ah well..." means the cheating goes on unchecked.
