The girl found on O'Connell Street

The gardai have just realeased a (grainy) picture of the girl found on O'Connell Street.
They can't seem to identify where she's from - this seems very strange, unless she's just not speaking at all.
Surely there must be some way her native language could be identified?

The reason she is not talking may not be a language difficulty, it may be related to the trauma which she has suffered.

It does seem strange she was taken in to care 10 days ago I guess they are just being very delicate with her due to what seems to have happened.

I really hope this pic will help this girl be reunited with her family .. It's such a terrible story that's emerging , I'm still really puzzled why the hse tried to challenge the releasing the pic.
Surely after the guards exhausted all means they could this was the obvious next step.
Again I hope the girl overcomes what has happened her and hopefully will lead a normal life

Surely they could have released a better photo...unless they were trying to take the photo without her being aware of it.
I find the whole thing very strange. There have been suggestions that she was "trafficked" here; but how? Unless she has some intellectual disability, how could she not be able to say where she has come from, even by pointing at a map.

I really don't understand all this. The picture is crap they should've released a clear picture of her facing the camera. From reports I've read it says she agrees with her picture being released but then they say she doesn't speak English.

Surely they could bring in some Eastern European speaking interpreters to speak to her. I also don't see how she doesn't know where she came from or her family unless she's been with traffickers for the last 8 or so years but if she has been with traffickers for a long time I couldn't see them getting braces on her teeth or her hair highlighted.

Well what if she was abducted when she was very young, like 3-4 and given only basic education? My aunt was a social worker and she worked in a care home in the UK and she said they had kids who were 15 and 16 who could not tell the time and had never looked at maps before. These were British kids. If she has been trafficked here from somewhere abroad theres no telling what she has been through.

Was anyone listening to Pat Kenny there? Apparently she is speaking but they can't find anyone who is able to determine what language. Seems very strange.

Theres what, 3 universities in Dublin? They must be able to find people who are experts on all sorts of obscure languages, even if she is speaking a strange dialect they might be able to give an educated guess.

The picture is the one thing I find difficult to understand.

But she's been in care now for quite awhile, I am sure that have been trying to get her to speak, but for whatever reason, trauma etc. she hasn't. I am sure the Gardai/Care workers haven't just been sitting around feeding and watering her in the hope she'll just talk

If she was trafficked, and she's been used as a sex slave (God, I hope not) then her captors may well have got those things done -
Highlights to make her more appealing punters
same with braces, either to make her more appealing - or to make her look younger again.....

They need to record her speaking and put it all over the internet. Someone will be able to identify the language eventually.

She might be traumatised and does not want to be traced back to her tormentors. She may not remember her hometown/family if she was taken young and is not educated. Her language skills may be very poor for that reason, she might have been in captivity for years for all we know. Of course that traffickers would do her hair or teeth if they could sell her better for that...

Its almost certain she has been used as a sex slave because she drew some thoroughly stomach churning pictures when they first found her. I'd say thats why they didn't do a full photo shoot with her. She may not have great memories of camera equipment.

Id say medical professionals would surely be able to determine if she's a few bricks short of a wall even if they can't understand what she's saying. Could be wrong though.
