I have a new Dyson similar to this one and can confirm that compared to the older ones, build quality is crap, design is crap, suction is crap and the turbohead iscrap. I had to cover half the inlet with tape to increase air speed and get the brushes spinning at all.

Not a day goes by that I don't regret failing to persuade the wife to get a meile.

what model is it? we have a dc39 animal and find it quite good.. no problems with suction or any of the included tools.. we have mostly tiles downstairs with laminated floors upstairs and carpet on the stairs.. i find the bristle spinning tool does a pretty good job and removing stuff from the carpet..

have you tried phoning dyson about it? they might send out an engineer to take a look..

As an aside.. we had an older dyson and traded it in.. it served us well for 10 years.. and we abused it a lot.. did a lot of building work when we moved in and hoovered up lots of dust etc..

What they told me in currys when buying the new model was that for 90 euro Dyson will come out and recondition your current model with all new parts.. i was tempted to go this route as there are some things.. like the steel tube telescopic design that i preferred on the old model.

    Cheers,
    Mick

Is all that not covered under guarantee? How exactly does it degrade to the point that it needs new parts and not be covered by the guarantee?

What improvements would the new parts make?

Get what the professionals use and go for a Miele or a Bissell.

We bought a Bissell a few years ago and it's the mutts nuts... far better than the several Dysons we owned previously that destroyed themselves within a few years.

For pure power, you can't beat a Henry, but it is actually a little too powerful for me as it will clamp down onto the floor or even lift the carpet making it a bugger to push.

No trees were harmed in the posting of this message, however a large number of electrons were terribly inconvenienced.

You must be doing something wrong then.

Dyson DC07 here, replaced a few parts from cheap ebay purchases over the last year or so (belts and brush wheel) and going 100% after 8 years...

Same here i got a Dyson DCO7 for the 'aul one' a couple of years ago, although i don't know how old it really is as it would save on using the 'Henry 'hoover pushing it on deep pile carpets, but now both will last about an hour as they heat up.

I regularly check the Dyson filter if it needs washing out, to see if that's causing the cut-out, did the same thing happen to you?
