    when we moved farms near 10 year ago now, after we reseeded all the ground we had a 30ac field of itailian rye grass and it was more yellow than green :o spent a full week pulling ragweeds. Oh the memories

    when you are on duty give us a run down of a normal day, i am sure there are not bomb disposals or search and rescue every day? i am not having a go at you, just interested

    Duties are different to normal day in the barracks. normal day in barracks could be anything from upkeep of the barracks, weapons training, physical training, could be on various courses.
    if you are a driver you could be sent on detail to anywhere on any certain day
    if on duty you are in the duty room for 24hrs or 12hrs whichever are the normal rotations. on duty you patrol your area of responsibility for your period of duty.
    Then you have exercises that varies from company level (100ish), unit level (150ish), corp level (500 - 1000), brigade level (2000ish). (the different amount of units and personnel involved). could be from 2 days to two weeks long.
    not sure on navy or aer corps.

    Is it a 40 hr week ye punch in the barracks ?
    My aunts husband keeled over last week , he was only a year retired from the army and I was asking the sons and daughters after the funeral what he actually did in there and they didnt really know much about it . One of the sons reckoned he paid most of his mortgage from trips to the lebanon years ago though

    depends on what corps he was in while he served, no set hours in per week or such things as weekend or bank holidays as if your required your in barracks. I do a min of 50hrs per week. lots of lads that bought houses in the 80s could pay off their house with 3 or 4 trips overseas as the houses only cost about 50,000 or so.

    do you own a farm as well?
    and plan to have a baby you will be well shagged

    OMG you are right. It obviously the work of the firery beast. I'll ask bob to have a word, I heard he has a credit deal done with the devil on maize meal, so he has a direct line.

    There's an old fella around here reckons the only night of the year he has a few brandies before bed is the night he sells the calves off the cows. Any saturday now I'd say.

    Managed to put my back out Saturday morning lifting a bloody bag of nuts!!. Passed out briefly and only for having my 5 year old with me, I would have been even worse. He got me the fork which I used as a crutch to get me back up. Have not had a blow out like this in 5 years. Currently on the equivalent of 3 different types of horse tablets and probably out for 3/4 days at a minimum. One thing for sure is your health is your wealth.

    All of my female relatives, in laws and friends hate whelan1 anecdotes esp the ones about pregnancy/childbirth/maternity leave.:D:D Except my mother-in-law, she'd be well able for you, the only difference between you was that the place she was farming wasn't hers.

    A friend was reported to the coco for mud on the road when drawing in silage a number of years ago in very wet weather by a neighbour, not a farmer. Later in the year he put the weaned calves in the field behind his house.:):)
