Hey keith,

No superchager here

It's a Toyota 4AGE (20v found in the AE86) with a Tran-X gearbox producing the whine because of the straight rather than helical way the gears meet!

Having listened to it again I can see where you got that from though

Sorry to be "that guy" but the Ae86 came with the 16 valve variant of the 4A-GE. The 20 valve wasn't introduced until the the AE101 (silver top).

Spoke to a few boardsies at the meetup about this. It's an exhaust with an electronically controlled valve to restrict the noise. Amazing idea!
