This is something that really irritates me. How can the government be so inept as to still be trotting out the same old outdated diet advice.

It has been known conclusively for years now that saturated fat, red meat and eggs are healthy foods which we all should be eating. It's been known for years conclusively that wheat is extremely bad for your health. Most grains in fact are bad but wheat is epecially bad. Its been known for years that real butter is good for you and vegetable oils are harmful.

Why the fup are we still being given sh1t diet advice?

Govt definitely knows what's best for us... always

I do admit I appreciated the poster I saw "they're children, give them child sized portions"

That's exactly what came to mind when I read the thread title. I know Safefood said they'd take it all on board. Anyone know if anything changed?

    It gets worse...
Cheese is bad for children, since when?
Only eat low fat dairy ( low fat but high sugar)

I could never understand that they wanted to ban cheese adverts but not breakfast cereal adverts or fizzy drinks aimed at kids.
The worst food possible for sugar content. It baffles me!
What is wrong with porridge or eggs for kids breakfasts? And just plain milk or water as a drink. That is all my kids know and love a healthy diet as it is normal to them.
I could rant all day about this topic

    I'll go have a look.
My workplace asked for anonymous requests from us on what we'd like to see during a healthy eating/lifestyle campaign. I begged them not to roll out the food pyramid sh!te. Guess what advice we're now getting from an "expert"...

No, they still have the food pyramid
    http://www.safefood.eu/Healthy-Eating/Food,-Diet-and-Health.aspx
    This means you should eat:

Plenty of bread, rice potatoes, pasta and other starchy foods
    God in heaven

You should probably read the safefood thread I linked :)

This is the basic answer though:

The most widely known food pyramid was introduced by the United States Department of Agriculture in the year 1992,

So is milk supposed to be good or bad for you then. I can literally drink about a gallon a day but cut back since my mate advised me it was healthy,........... if you were a young developing calf.

Yes and usually they misinterpret the results woefully.

For example they see that people who eat red meat are more likely to suffer heart disease and then conclude that red meat has caused the heart disease. People with moustaches are more likely to suffer from heart disease, does that mean moustaches cause heart disease. Its shocking that such faulty logic still goes on.

When you hear diet "experts" refer to associations and links be very skeptical. Correlation doesn't equal causation.

When the Minister of Health is clinically obese, it would suggest that healthy eating isn't a high priority.

Milk is calorie dense, if you are looking at ways to increase your calorie intake then milk is a good way of doing it. If you are looking to lose weight, it's good to bear in mind how much milk you are drinking.

If the Government studies are wrong what's to say other studies aren't slanted in favour of vested interests?

I'll stick with the Governments advice thanks.

Sweden's government changed their advice and now recommend a high fat low carb diet.

Maybe you should do some research on your own and not let an overweight parliament make up your mind for you.

    Google Thomas Dayspring, Gary Taubes,

Sweden h a s just ditched the low fat diet mantra..

I eat only fruit and veg for carbohydrate, eat a lot of fat butter coconut meat fish olive oil etc and have never felt better.

    200km cycles without food.

    Google is your friend.

Let the academic do what he wants, but the whole western world using it for the basis of their dietary advice is the unpleasant bit
