Bangernomics decision - 99 Avensis 1.6 or 99 Octavia 1.6

I'm hoping to buy before the weekend and been narrowing it down to reliable motors, big enough to carry plenty gear. Resale potential is important too.

Any opinions? The load carrying possibilities of the estate are great, and the recent work done.

The avensis is has low milage and one owner service history up to 80k, now at 93k genuine it seems.

Which can I expect a more enjoyable driving experience from. Good bit of motorway driving. but short trips during the week also.

I would go for the avensis. Is it normal to change wheel bearings in pairs?

The Octavia is more modern despite being launched before the avensis, I would get the toyota tbh as those pre vvti engines are very durable.

Didn't like the avensis too much,

Is there something not right about the wheel bearings being done in pairs on the Skoda?

another vote for the avensis, as for the wheel bearings, Not really strange i would be inclined to do an axle as a set but thats just personal choice really.

Neither.

But given the choice, I'd take the Avensis. Lower mileage, probably more reliable and should definitely be easier to sell on again.

I just didn't trust the Avensis. Old taxi possibly. Had screwholes in the dash, which I'm guessing is a place you'd mount a taxi meter or something. Might still be the better option.
