Aren't the vast majority of people in Ireland white?

yes because if you defend yourself you are automatically a racist bigoted nazi loving right winger..

You have some evidence of that, I presume?

If you want to make a snide comment at least have it make sense...

You, of all people, making a comment that political epithets will be directed at you if you "defend yourself" is ironic.

Your use of left-wing/liberal as an insult is why.

    Latest update on the trial...

Looks like a racial motive also.

A key witness gave revealing testimony Monday in the shocking case of a foreign exchange student from Northern Ireland beaten within inches of her life during a Chicago robbery in 2010.
Marcy Cruz detailed to the court what she saw the night Heriberto Viramontes is accused of brutally beating Natasha McShane and Stacy Jurich, both 27, leaving McShane paralyzed and unable to speak.

'He told me, "Look at all these white ho's," that he wanted to rob one of them,' Cruz testified.
According to the Chicago Tribune, the former stripper and mother of two young children also testified that Viramontes, 34, took a baseball bat from Cruz's van before disappearing into the early morning darkness.
She waited just long enough to listen to one song on the radio while she smoked some marijuana.
When Viramonte returned, Cruz told the court that he carried with him two purses and told her to drive off.
They divvied up the contents of the purse and Cruz took some Dior perfume and makeup.
'He stated that the girls were really pretty and that he did some bogus (stuff),' Cruz said.
Prosecutors say that 'bogus stuff' was what left McShane disabled for life and her friend Jurich unable to ever forget what she saw.
Cruz said she'd met Viramontes through her boyfriend, though she admitted to having had sex with him in the van that tragic April night before the girls were beaten.

I wonder will we have the same circus about this case as the Trayvon Martin case? Not a hope in hell there will.

Umm.... there seems to be a statute of limitations on this then...

It's not racially motivated if the person on the receiving end is Caucasian. There will be no Oprah special or Reverend wanting to meet with the President. Similar to the Aussie/Kiwi/RSA guys gunned down for nothing other than there skin colour this year in the US. Racism is a one way street my friend to say other wise and you will receive allot of wrath.

It doesn't look like anyone is 'getting away with it' so why would their be outrage? The dude has been caught. It's somewhat different from the Martin case where the shooter wasn't even arrested for ages (I'm not arguing the rights/wrongs of the case).

Where is 'getting away with it' coming into this. The morale race outrage in the Martin came well before the trial and there was no solid evidence of racism. In this case there is so why don't don't we have 24 hour coverage and moral outrage by "white" people?

Well, notwithstanding the fact that this story did feature heavily in the news, there is a much smaller probability of this attack being indicative of systemic anti-whites racial discrimination in society.

Trayvon Martin wasn't the first, nor the most recent black guy to be killed buy a white guy in the states. If it were that simple, there would have been a lot more Trayvon Martins in the period since the original case. The Trayvon Martin murder may have been relevant to systemic anti-blacks discrimination because of the circumstances which were peculiar to that case.

Not every instance of a murder where the victim was a different skin colour can be deemed to indicate widespread racial discrimination. If you don't understand that, there's a problem.

The last paragraph is the only part I agree with. The rest of the text you can replace white with black and have the same argument however you would be called racist.

But keep the head in the sand I guess.

Hes probably the first one killed by a white hispanic guy though.

But sure hispanic guy kills black guy doesnt lend itself to the cause as much as white guy does it.

Tell me, Caped One, what have your powers revealed that allows you to say such a thing?

    Lol

Didn't you use such powers to deduce Oprah was racially abused when trying to buy that bag in Switzerland?

Well as a European I'm used to thinking of hispanic as synonymous with white.

I actually have no idea whether, like half the US hispanic population, Zimmerman is white hispanic. Does it matter?

The point i'm making is that it is legitimate to raise concerns about the systemic discrimination of certain racial groups. That doesn't apply in the case of this Irish white lady.

thats the point you are missing, these crimes are never linked unless its the other way around, open your eyes kid.

Well they weren't addressing me, so if you want to use them as an excuse to get a dig in, you'll want to do better than that.

    No.

Saying there is systemic discrimination of whites in the USA is just daft.

It's a horrible story. America hands out much tougher prison sentences though, which is at least some consolation.
