This company won't be paying for training , they will take people from the dole and they will continue to get there dole for the first month of training as arranged with social welfare than after successful completion of training will be offered employment.

Where does it say that? That sounds fairly dodgy!

It's perfectly legal and it gets dole numbers down also but some people may be disappointed not to be earning full wage till a few weeks in to work. The government see it as a 4 week training course so you can get your dole. The company have been doing this in Waterford center last 12 months.

A good percentage of people who go on to work in IT will have started in call centre jobs like this. If it ends up being 250 recent graduates staying in Ireland, getting experience and paying taxes rather than emigrating, then that's a good thing, not a bad thing.

    Please amend the OP.

Like I already said yes that is great news

A lot of this has to do with the way "news" is reported on RTE, look at the news on the BBC for example, Items like job announcements, reports from charities( which are in reality a cheap way of then getting there name in the media ) rarely if ever appearer on the BBC news, however the RTE new is full of stuff like that Ireland is a very parochial place.

You get local news on the BBC too though. Their local news deals with the stuff RTE include. We're a small country. When we get a 24hr news channel we might see the likes of Cork specific news shows and so on.

These are 250 people that the government doesn't have to pay. Even if it is minimum wage, the savings and improvement to the economy are very large.

The local news on BBC is so much more parochial than anything we have. BBC Look East, Midlands Today, Look North are all painful to watch.

The regularly show inane stuff that wouldn't even get picked up on Nationwide.

It's all stories about singing dogs and women who convert old bathtubs into flower planters.

But you can't compare RTE with the main BBC news and call RTE parochial because the main BBC news covers a huge population. RTE have to cover what the main BBC news and the local news cover in one.

The BBC cover local stories in the regional new at the END of the main news...RTE cover it through out the main news and its reported in a more local way especially letting politicians take credit for various items they really have only a tenuous connection too, Plus the RTE news if full of reports from charities or not for profit organisations which have no place on the main news of the day.

Okay this thread is really bothering me. Why don't people rejoice? 250 jobs to become available in Wexford, when only a short while ago, there was maybe 4/5 and they were very basic low quality jobs such as floor staff in supervalu, where the hours were pitiful and you would barely get basic wage.

Before you bash eishtec you should do your research, you gain a Fetac Level 6 whilst doing the training, so for a lot of people who have never done higher education this is a great achievement to ad to your c.v. Its higher than minimum wage, and the hours are fantastic. Its a very coooshty job, compared to most places I have worked in Wexford.

Treat their employees extremely well, and of course there is so much room for career progression. Most IT technicians, sales representatitves, recruitment consultants, usually need 6 months call centre experience to break into the industry where there wages are above 30,000 a year, so get your facts straight.

And also why the f**k moan about something positive?!?!? IDIOTS!

Been bothering you for 9 months?

I came across this thread online, and did not see the date. Still think its pathetic that people can moan about something positive. Why do people have the need to moan, I mean people moan when the dole is cute by a couple of euro, when there is a lack of jobs, and when there are more jobs created . Unbelievable

What position do you hold within the company.

I don't but I do know many people who work there.

Just wondering what area the fetac is awarded in?

I'm not sure I just attended an interview with them, and they said that the 4 weeks training is a condensed course in Fetac Level 6. I think it could possibly be technical skills. I'm really only guessing. I zoned out a bit when they were speaking about it, but I just think the company has great bonuses, in a place where companies are exploiting people who are willing and wanting to work , to work for nothing to gain skills and experience packing shelves and giving it a fancy name.

I did the training with talk talk (4 weeks when it was formerly AOL), never really thought of it as being accredited. Lasted about four weeks after that though, didn't mind the work just wasn't suited to it myself but AOL did look after their employees, weekly pizza's and videogame booths in chillout zones were the norm back then. It's a decent job that a lot of people would be glad of.

(I'm doing a level 5 at the minute in a very different area now and it's full time for a year, would be three years if I want to go on to do level 6)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7 blondichu

Really I'm quite confused, I did a level 5 in Enniscorthy and from there on went straight to University to do my BA. The leve 5 was a year course aswell

Yeah I think its a very decent job so people shouldnt complain. Especially as not many companies in Wexford would look after there employees as well as they do.

Also I know this is random, but I got to the assestment day with Eishtec on Wednesday just gone. And they said they will let me know if I got the job in a couple of days. It is now Saturday. I am just wondering if they usually take long getting back to you :/ I am so impatient!

I think there was a thread about them in the regional forums (possibly Waterford) but be forewarned, some people may harbour some negativity toward Eishtec due to the nature of the venture stemming out from the area of Talk Talk and some questioning the capabilities of those backing it. (former colleagues)
I'd say give it until Monday. Hope it goes well though, either way it's definitely better than being on the dole and its a step in the right direction if you're looking to advance yourself.

Thanks :) Sorry I don't have a clue what about that. What happened with Talk Talk?

They closed there a couple of years back with the loss of nearly 600 jobs, afaik Eishtec is a spin off founded by former employees.

All the jobs are filled, friend of mine got the call on Friday. They said that unsuccessful candidates would be informed next week and anyone that was successful was told on Friday gone.

don't mind him, they are still recruiting blondichu. (as of yesterday anyway they were still advertising through hartley people)

I recently took a pay cut to move to a job with a career path, it was a tough decision but was the only route into the industry without the 100 years experience that companies request. If these positions didn't exist people like me wouldn't be able to get into industries at all! These jobs are good for people out of work and looking to get on the career ladder. Stop judging OP.

have a round 1 interview through a recruitment agency for a job at eishtec tomorrow. Getting nervos already.

But no harm in getting experience doing interviews

What sort of questions do they ask in round 1 interviews ?

best of luck. Haven't been through the process with them but with their predecessors and it went from phone interview (which I did semi awake) to one on one where we just covered previous experience and maybe a "how would you do x" bit. You'll be fine.
