    Not Your Ornery Onager

But if you think about it, it's leaving more to go wrong with your car!

Which means more to repair, which costs more, and if you neglect things on your car you're gona have a bad time!
There are too many variables in my opinion.

One car, less than 10 years old, could be doing 50-60K km per year, but still gets tested only every two years.

Another car, over 10 years old, could be doing 5-6K km per year, but needs a test every year.

    I'm in the latter car.

    Not your ornery onager

If you are depending on the NCT to keep your car up to date then that's your problem surely?

Don't all cars need a min. of 1 year service?

Yep they do, to be honest I look after my car religiously, to most it may be a heap but i need it to be working right, if something goes on it it's replaced that day and fitted the following day or weekend, whichevers nearer

I'm just saying that most people out there look at the nct as a kind of "your car is fine for another year well done you", and carry on like that

    Swings and roundabouts I'd say.

My main concern would be the amount of sh1te that would be back on the roads again. As someone around here said recently, the Irish know jack about looking after a car.

I guess it depends on the drivers needs, like you're the latter of those but I'm in a car that needs a test each year doing 60/70k per year

Yep I'm the same toasted, next year my car drops into the annual test setup. I cover 50k miles a year and only happy to have the test.
I look after the car the same as yourself but nothing beats someone else getting a look, they can usually find something I didn't notice!
Good job in my opinion :)

Thats true, like I don't bother getting it pretested because I know everything's ok, but the last time they found that a rubber ring on my fuel cap was perished, stupid i know but there you go!

I'll give you a good story, today I took a friends car up to dgts to get repaired, the friend would fit into esels bracket, around 7/8k annually, her wheel bearing was gone, track rod end gone, wishbone was gone, lights busted, wheels unbalanced and mis aligned, but yet it has an nct till 2014, so as i said before, it depends on the person and all, but that's just one of the bad examples, not saying everyones like that!

I'd agree if you keep your car well then the nct is not something to fear. The tester are fair and don't go out to fail anyone.

I was caught out on a few silly bits over the years and they often passed it anyway for me to fix and not drag me back. They are fair and the test is good, stuff that we can't do with the car jacked up :)

I don't always listen to metal in the car, but when I do... it's fcuking good metal.

My favourite driving tune has to be the theme from Bullitt by Lalo Schifrin, you need to have a kickass stereo to get the full effect, the brass will scare you to death when it kicks in at 1:08 provided you have it turned up a bit ;)

Best thing I ever did for music in the car was to get a spotify premium account. I rarely listen to radio stations except for traffic reports in the mornings.

Yeah, or you can download the songs at home on the app (free!) and play when you're out. I usually just use it on 3G but then again I've got two phones with quite hefty data packs. YMMV. :pac:

Just had a rear track control arm burst itself there a bit ago!!

Left side just gave way with a bang and I swear it was fine a week ago when I checked everything before the meet!!

Gave about 10 degrees toe movement, car started skittering on the road until I stopped, not a nice position to be in. Thank god I was on a crap local road and going easy!

New one ordered for monday, changing the other one too!

Does anyone know can they just freak break like that?

It's the rear axle's top front most arm for anyone in the know.

    Unlucky fatigue failure.

It can happen. Manufacturing flaw, rock-strike...... it's rare enough but like all man-made objects, no car is perfect.

    It happened. It finally happened

Went for an auld shpinn round westmeath (anyone spot me?)

I drove down this road, then turned down this narrow country road. It got progressively narrower in direct proportion to the grass in the middle of the road getting wider and taller. The grass suddenly turned into rushes the height of my bonnet and the road narrowed further. Eventually, staring in disbelief, I saw the road completely disappear infront of me and I am now in a field..... I had to reverse a long way back :pac:

I got a bit lost in Dublin today playing a similar game. Trying to discover new race tracks ways of beating the traffic. :p
