Do you ever wonder what life would be like if you were rich?

Sometimes i wonder what i would be doing, who i would be with and how i would spend my weekends if i was rich.

I wonder would you get tired of flying around the world in a private jet, staying in top hotels and partying in exclusive clubs every night? If that doesn't sound appealing you could just do what ever you wanted all day.

In this day and age I'd consider someone who makes over 35k a year as being rich

Where did it all go wrong Tom?

Yes, firstly with my lotto win, I would bring all my family on holidays then buy myself and all of them houses. Then I'd give the rest to charity because that amount of money isn't healthy for just one person :rolleyes:

I just want the chance to prove that all that money wouldn't change me

    But would I be happy?

    Yes I fucking would.

I wonder why god hasn't blessed me with any talents and made me extremely ugly, greatly reducing my chances of getting rich.

If I wasn't happy, I could at least be miserable in comfort...

Hardly....... I wouldn't consider myself rich unless I made at least 3 times that a year

But that is below the average industrial wage.

It is very very far from rich - you couldn't even own a house.

Everybody should imagine they can get a job. These times won't last.

Can i ask, when people say '35k' or '50k' a year is that after or before tax?

35k a year is 700 a week, that's a lot of money. You could live extremely comfortably on 700 a week.

Most people talk gross - before tax.

So to have 35 k a year you would need to earn 70k

You need to be earning 100k + to be comfortable in Ireland.

    That is a House
    2 cars
    2-3 holdays
    go out for a meal 1 / 2 times a weak
no limitation on clothes or pub
no limitation on sports or hobbies.
Kids in a good school - no limitation on their hobbies or college needs.

And even at that, you couldn't do all that with 70 k gross too easy. (You couldn't in fact, you would need 100 k ++)

    Thanks.

Im not well informed on the whole tax system, but why do people talk gross when as far as i know, you never actually get that amount - the tax is taken from you and you are left with the rest? You might earn 70k but realistically you will never see so you actually see it, is that it?

Well there is a big scam of PAYE and Non PAYE in this country.

long story - PAYE pay every cent they earn near 50 %,

non PAYE have certain - lets just say options - the xmas party could be in Portugal for example.

    Car - fuel etc etc.

complicated beast. But there is plenty of households in Ireland with 100,000 + coming in.

You might get a mortgage, but it wouldn't be high enough to buy a decent home in Dublin...

With what savings and what would you call a decent home? You could easily get a 3 bed semi.

I don't have to wonder, I know exactly how I'd be spending and investing, due to knowing someone who is very, very rich; they don't have to work, their potential children and grandchildren would never have to work, and believe me, they are as happy and carefree as a piggy in siht. The best of everything is the order of the day.

I do daydream on occasion! :D

We are talking about rich here - 2.5 times 35 K will get you what about 90,000 euro - yes you can get a house just about in a very small area of Ireland - not in a city - you are not going to be rich. I think that is what we are talking about.

To put it another way in 2006 when people were on 35 K and they were getting up to 9 times that on a mortgage. Everybody in the county imagined they were rich - but guess what,

SO maybe you can get a house - but you are going to find it very very hard to keep it going and have any life outside of bills.

I think the majority of people aspire to more.

I know someone on that money an they got 165k loan, with 30k savings they bought a 3 bed semi in south dublin for 190k.

I assume the poster saying 35k was rich was joking though.

If the rich could pay the poor to die for them, they would make a pretty good living.
