What a load of rubbish, if one of my siblings was missing more than a few days, let alone over a year, I'd be checking their computer to find out or narrow then where they might have gone
You would, but the Gardai can't just go ahead and do it, there are limits on how they can access private information.

Anyway, that's a bit moot since they had apparently already gone through the information, but from a missing persons' perspective.

When you go through it a second time from a murder perspective, you will view a lot of activities differently.

I love how the papers are champing at the bloody bit to name this guy. Revealing enough information that anyone "in the know" in South County Dublin will probably be able to make a stab at guessing his identity.

    Eh? What?
How would him being famous or not in any way change the fact that a family is grieving the death of their daughter/sister, and a wife and kids are dealing with their husband/father's guilt

I think he's joking, chill out man

I read somewhere that any evidence that the Gardai get from a missing persons computer/phone could not be used in a court as they did not have the persons permission in the first place. It is only when the body of the missing person is found can they look.
I presume that in the case of a minor the parents can give permission.

Well done to the Garda and anyone who assisted in solving this tragic case.
I hope the family finally get closure and can return to something of normality.
I now pity this man's poor wife and family if he's guilty.

I am not going to give any identifying information, he lives around the corner from me, I dropped my daughter to the bus this morning, we noticed 4 guards in an unmarked car close to his house. Both cars have been removed by the guards. The house is currently being examined.
The accused has a facebook page as has his wife. The house is covered in Halloween decorations. I feel very sorry for Elaine's family and I equally feel sorry for his wife and kids. A friend of mine originally owned the house, his business went bust, he sold at the top of the market 1.3 million, bought a house nearby for 500,000 and pocketed the difference, his pension.

I was on that site before where ms o'hara was on and I found out very fast that the irish kink/fetish/bdsm community is full of liars and cheats and power hungry control freaks. There's a lot of dickheads hurting people and it's outside the realms of consentual bdsm. I left very fast.

    Poor Elaine O'Hara.

Just to add another fact, the place has been crawling with journalists, a TV crew, the media know his identity, I presume they are waiting for him to be officially charged,

Would the general public know him?

I hope they take him to the cleaners.

I also hope sites like what I was on gets closed down and banned.

I would have described myself as a kinster or fetishist. I met some nice people at munchs. I met with someone for more and it brought me nothing more but sheer heartache.

It's a breeding ground for abuse. Nothing else.

As far as I am aware the person arrested hasn't been charged with anything nor mind convicted. Bear that in mind. The rumour mill is starting to grind here now. Continue in this fashion and action will be taken.

You can bet he's got a sh1t hot lawyer. How long can they question him for, up to seventy two hours afaik?

I was thinking the same thing. Wouldn't surprise me if it was out of date etc... it'd be the worse ending imaginable to this case:(

I have never come across him, I referred to him as the accused, innocent until proven guilty. <snip>

In tabloidese it's a close cousin to the 'Sex Beast'. I'm not sure what a Sex Beast is but I always picture a Rhinocerous that's been shot up with a ton of Viagra.

You're dead right - the media are dropping all types of hints:

    According to : http://www.rte.ie/news/2013/1017/480929-elaine-ohara/
'The man in custody is an honours graduate of the National University of Ireland.

He has no criminal convictions and has never before come to garda attention.

The man has been working at a senior level in a business in Dublin city centre for the past 12 years.'

The SW reports that he was an architect
    http://www.sundayworld.com/top-stories/crime-desk/architect-arrested-for-elaine-ohara-murder
'The well-to-do professional – who drives a luxury car – has no history of criminal activity and has never come to the attention of the gardai previously.'

All reports indicate that the man was 'shocked' when the raid occured this morning.
Perhaps the coinage 'innocent until proven guilty is working. While he may potentially be guilty of infidelity, that does not necessarily mean he is guilty of murder.
Maybe he was just in the wrong place at the wrong time

Yes they love all this. And if challenged they will cloak it in some "justice for Elaine" bilge.

I'm from Foxrock, and needless to say, the rumours are rife.

It's very shocking that something like this could happen under our noses, and in such a nice town it's certainly scandalous, but if this man is the culprit, I am glad he has been caught, and will hopefully get his just deserts.

Feel awfully sorry for the man's family, but hopefully this arrest will bring justice for poor Elaine, and closure for her long-suffering family.

Even if he did do it, accidental or otherwise, afaik there's no evidence. Is there?

I'm sure this lad, going by the description in the papers, could afford a good lawyer.
All they can do is connect him to her. I assume they're hoping he'll break, and I doubt any lawyer will let that happen.

This guy has had a long time (if he is connected to her death) to concoct a story if need be.

Gutter press? Rumours? Have you seen our sacred RTE news tonight? Shots of the house and car make/model with a run down on his career over the last 12 years.
Sorry, but you don't have to go to the gutter press or some AH poster to find out this persons identity- our national broadcaster did a fine job tonight in helping those who want to know such details

    Very bad journalism IMO

If AH can follow the rule of law, I don't see why other media outlets that have total control over what they publish cannot follow suit, regardless of "insider" tip offs and what not.

    RIP the victim.
