True Geothermal (as opposed to ground source HP)

    Just back from a trip to Iceland - was shown true geothermal - hot water out of the ground at 100C - for free

    I know that SEAI have looked at this http://www.seai.ie/Grants/Renewable_Energy_RD_D/Projects_funded_to_date/Geothermal_Energy/ but in reality its too expensive here

    Also to make you sick - average electrical bill in Iceland is €20 per month again using geothermal to generate it

    Very interesting Fclauson. Had a quick read of the report. Huge amount of information there would be good if it could be exploited nationwide in the areas where the resource exists.

    They have volcanos etc there though so plenty of heat
    - just grey miserable and average here

    €20 a month would be good!! Serious natural resource to have. Guess we'll have to come up with something to get energy from rain??!

    We should be exploiting our wind resources to a much greater extent! And have they progressed much in developing tidal energy?

    on the map click on "show tools" bottom left to see the temperature

    drilling costs go up exponentially with depth and you'd need a lot of pumping and insulation

    if you need more than 40 degrees in anywhere other than hotspots you are going to have go way down - in the case of Cork 5Km down

    You mean like storing it in reservoirs and using it to turn turbines. ;)

    Wait until the hydrogen fuel cell becomes a reality - all them hot oil rich nations will be buying water from us !!!

    Not at all fclauson...the government will just sell the rights to our natural resources on the cheap. Someone will then devise a method of towing our clouds elsewhere and we'll pay to re-import rain water.
