Ballincollig Test centre

    Hi everyone

I applied to do my driving test about 6 weeks ago and selected the new centre in Ballincollig. Seeing as I had heard nothing about my test date I decided to give them a ring today. Apparently the 'location' on my application was blank when it was checked up and that was why I hadn't been contacted with a date. However on my print out I got 6 weeks ago it clearly shows Ballincollig was selected. When the lady on the phone tried to amend my application and re-add Ballincollig it couldn't be selected. She was puzzled and I was eventually told Ballincollig had been withdrawn :(.

However the father of one of my brothers friends is a Tester (one of the few in Cork). According to him Ballincollig has not been withdrawn and that it couldn't be selected because it was so new  The lady I rang transfered me to do my Test in Wilton which I wanted to avoid as I practice all the time in Ballincollig.

I'm just wondering if anyone has any idea what the situation is with Ballincollig and whether I should ring again tomorrow and try to transfer back to Ballincollig, if it's even there

    Thanks :)

Interesting question, maybe call an instructor based in that area. They should know if it open or not.

    Hey, How's it going?

I did my test back in July except I did it in wilton (2nd Time at it)
I had booked my test for Wilton and about a week later i found out the ballincollig test center had been opened and I immediately rang the RSA and asked to move my test to the ballincollig center.

I was told I could not book my test for here as there not allowed to book dates for applying for a B License (Car & tractor) in Ballincollig but that they could put me on a waiting list for a cancellation instead?

In the end I didn't change my test center but was told later by my instructor that they only give dates to tests applying for a truck licence and that cars get booked in then when a truck test is cancelled and cannot be refilled by a different person applying for a truck test.

Thanks for all that information, exactly what I was looking for :) I guess I might ring them and see how often Cars get in and if it's not too irregular I'll ask to be put down for a cancellation. It'll give me more time to practice :)

Is this still an option for a test location?

Would have been lovely to drive around there on my test rather than the mayhem of Togher traffic and pedestrians Pretty sure ballincollig is for trucks or motorcycles ...one of them anyway. If possible ring them up after you book and ask for a nice time. Avoid lunch, 4.00 and 9 in the morning. I did my test at 11 I think, on a Wednesday. Not a soul in sight compared to the times above.

AFAIK Ballincollig is only used for Arctic Trucks, Rigid Trucks, Motorbikes and Jeep with trailer tests.

Presumably because it has a fine big carpark which is unused during test times on weekdays. It is used for 2 week periods every 4 to 6 weeks depending on demand. I don't think any car (B) tests are done there.
