Swapping cars - guide on difference in value

Looking for some advice. I'm thinking of swapping cars with the in-laws. Mine's a 2011 1.6l diesel Octavia hatchback, Ambiente spec with 33k miles, fdsh and no issues so far. They have a 2004 Zarifa, 2.0l diesel automatic with about 80k miles.

What would be a fair deal? I'm thinking swap the cars and 11k. Lowest price for my car I can find online is about 15k but most of them are dealer prices so you'd expect to do a bit better. It's very hard to find a similar model to their Zafira and petrol ones are advertised for less than 4k.

    Thanks

I'd be looking for around €11,500/€12,000 to swap.

Thanks for that. At first I thought it would be closer to 10k bt seeing the difference in prices I can't really let it go for that. I might just sell it private and then decide if I want to buy the Zafira or not.

Run VRT calculator on each. And as you have done, check sites for similar models/miles.

Edit, lol I did the VRT calc on my own car. If I imported it now I'd have to pay almost as much in VRT as I paid for the car itself.

VRT calculator has my car as being worth nearly €3500, so Id say its fair to say that its not the most accurate of systems!

Good call on the VRT calculator but it has my car at just over 13k. I would have it as worth more than that. The Zafira is at 3.5k which seems reasonable to me.

I think I'll ask them for 11 and if they don't want to go that far I'll just have to try sell privately.

Just a word of caution, if you sell/swap with family and something goes wrong you'll never hear the end of it. Up to you of course.

    Totally

Buying and selling / swapping with Family .. .christ the implications if things go wrong ;)

I agree and what worries me most is I'd be much more concerned about their car than mine. I've kept it well but I wouldn't be as sure about theirs.

I'd rather do something like this though because I don't fancy doing a 15k deal on my driveway with some stranger. I'd be bricking it that something would go wrong.
