Can't believe we're on page 2 and no mention of Sarah Jessica Parker.

Tell me there's one man who fancies her apart from her husband? I've seen better looking horses.

In fairness, how could you ever think she's considered a sex symbol? The poor woman is absolutely ripped apart for her looks. Like, how very dare a less-than-attractive woman be so successful as an actress. The dastard(ess)!

And actually, I do know of one or two men who liked her in SATC, mainly for her tight bod.

SJP is such an easy target. Must try harder, ButtersSuki. And you even trotted out the horse thing. (Pun intended) A miracle you didn't also make some reference to a foot in your post too.

I'll take that as acceptance that your post was as banal as they come.

No, just too tired to dissect your retort. Didn't realise that SJP had a fan club.

SJP was only ever regarded as a sex symbol by women. Most of whom watch a tv show, a poor one at the and think that a range of expensive shoes = desirable to the opposite sex. Not one man alive I know finds her attractive. She does look like a horse.

    She was?

I don't think she's great-looking, and I don't consider myself a fan as such, I just think the heat she takes over her looks or lack thereof is massively over the top.

So, she's not that great-looking. And?

    Bruce Willis

There was a guy interviewing him and he started of with "now Bruce we all know you are a god to women...."

    Hillary Swank

Though I did find her attractive in boys don't cry but that's about it.

I think fashionista as opposed to sex symbol tbh. Now have to say i'd know next to nothing about fashion, but my friends who would were always impressed with shoes and stuff from sex and the city..

She looked good in some of her other films but personally I wouldn't count her at attractive in Boys Don't Cry.

You know thats the one where she was dressed as a fella?

    Burt Reynolds

    Dean Martin

    Justin Bieber

    Lyle Wagonner

    David Copperfield

Rod Stewart (my best friend swooned over him...never understood why)

Oh my gawd, yes!!! In 'Friends' when all the girls are swooning over him - confused.png. He looks like a dad. In fact, he looks like MY dad. Maybe that's the problem!

I'd say it was the movie he was in. Three men and a baby or something.

I never really saw the appeal of Marylin Monroe.

Different era to be fair. In the 60's and 70's these men were sex symbols. Burt for being manly, Martin for being slick and Rod for oozing sex appeal. Judging them on today's standards they don't hold much but back in the era when leopard print on a man was outrageously fabulous you can see why.

Well you have to remember where she centers herself. She tries to place herself at the heart of an industry (fashion) which by it's very nature is judgemental purely on looks. She tries to be a model, designer, reviewer and all in a vacuoumous world of skin deep appearance.

The fact that she is only really in that area due to having worn some dresses and shoes on TV you can appreciate why people lash out at her.

Speaking of fashion, naiomi Campbell. Never got it!

The fashion industry is pretty artificial and odd by its nature.

And often high fashion top models aren't that conventionally good-looking, and can be downright odd-looking. And a lot of top designers are downright barmy-looking, and look like they shouldn't get anywhere near a naked flame. So it's not that surprising that someone of average looks can be celebrated in the fashion world. She has the main thing vaunted in that superficial world and that's a rail-thin figure.

Benedict Cumberbatch - at a loss for words over his 'attractiveness'

Do you not think he looks a bit like Postman Pat? I think he looks a bit like Postman Pat. I also think Postman Pat is next in line for the great British Broadcasting Paedo Reveal!

New word for today and I haven't even had breakfast yet :D

    Anyway -

Jennifer Anniston, Jessica Alba, Madonna, Julia Roberts, and many, many other contrived by the media "sex symbols".

Elizabeth Taylor and Marilyn Monroe are examples of timeless cultural icons. Elizabeth wouldn't be a sex symbol per se, but classic beauty, and as for Marilyn, well, her sex appeal was contrived, but she had the chops to back it up! :D

Robert "pasty face" Pattinson, Orlando Bloom, David Beckham (Yeah, great body, but about as much sex appeal as a wet sock!), I'm sure there's plenty more I could think of if I really put my mind to it.

I have and still didn't get the deal with her TBH.

Marilyn Monroe, I can see why as she was pretty by any objective standards, but what would have put me off her would be her persona(on screen and off). The cons would far outweigh the pros as it were. Liz Taylor ditto. I suppose the type appeals to the guys who want to "save" women. With Monroe as many gay fellas as straight fellas wanted to save her, so that's mass appeal right there. :D Me, I prefer them pre saved as there's only so much neurotic I can handle. Give me a Lauren Bacall any day of the week.

Nicole Kidman is one that never appealed, even though objectively she was clearly a good looking woman. Whereas Jodie Foster isn't as classically pretty, but I don't care if she's gay I so would. I think it's her intelligence that comes out that does it for me.

Well he is a pensioner now(though a preternaturally physically fit one), but I could see how he'd get some women going when at his peak in the 1960's, an androgynous Jim Morrison type. Lead singer in a rock band helps mind you. :D FFS Paul McCartney in his youth had as many if not more women wetting themselves over him with his little boy lost look*. Even Bono had them revved up before he turned into Robin Williams. All three of them would have been objectively more handsome in their prime than someone like Benedict Cabbagepatch. Though as --Kaiser-- points out the ladies are much more variable in what revs their engines. Thank god.

*though as John Lennon pointed out, no matter how big their egos got with the ladies, they'd stay grounded by taking one look at Ringo and remembering he got the most fan mail by far. :D

Many worry about Artificial Intelligence. I worry far more about Organic Idiocy.
