In fairness I've seen being called a hunk on T.V and he hadn't a clue how to react to it, except do a nervous, confused laugh.

Both absolute beauties. Wasn't aware the latter was a sex symbol, though I do think she's a perfect argument as to why conventional 'beauty' means little.

He looks terrific. All his own hair, not a single grey hair, trimmed eye brows and a year round tan and a hollywood smile. What more could you ask for a guy his age.

Georgia Salpa. I just do not see the attraction at all! She looks like a poor man's Kim Kardashian or Nichole Scherzinger.

In what universe was she ever a sex symbol though? I'm not aware of it anyway. A ('heroin chic', emaciated) top model, yes. A sex symbol, hardly.

For me, Burt Reynolds and Tom Selleck spring immediately to mind. I guess I just can't see the appeal of a manly 'tache! :D

Don't get me wrong. He is a born lasher and clearly the Adonis of our shores. But... I dunno call me weird. I just don't find him sexy

Can't believe we're on page 2 and no mention of Sarah Jessica Parker.

Tell me there's one man who fancies her apart from her husband? I've seen better looking horses.

In fairness, how could you ever think she's considered a sex symbol? The poor woman is absolutely ripped apart for her looks. Like, how very dare a less-than-attractive woman be so successful as an actress. The dastard(ess)!

And actually, I do know of one or two men who liked her in SATC, mainly for her tight bod.

SJP is such an easy target. Must try harder, ButtersSuki. And you even trotted out the horse thing. (Pun intended) A miracle you didn't also make some reference to a foot in your post too.

No, just too tired to dissect your retort. Didn't realise that SJP had a fan club.

SJP was only ever regarded as a sex symbol by women. Most of whom watch a tv show, a poor one at the and think that a range of expensive shoes = desirable to the opposite sex. Not one man alive I know finds her attractive. She does look like a horse.

    She was?

I don't think she's great-looking, and I don't consider myself a fan as such, I just think the heat she takes over her looks or lack thereof is massively over the top.

So, she's not that great-looking. And?

I think fashionista as opposed to sex symbol tbh. Now have to say i'd know next to nothing about fashion, but my friends who would were always impressed with shoes and stuff from sex and the city..

She looked good in some of her other films but personally I wouldn't count her at attractive in Boys Don't Cry.

You know thats the one where she was dressed as a fella?

I'd say it was the movie he was in. Three men and a baby or something.

I never really saw the appeal of Marylin Monroe.

Different era to be fair. In the 60's and 70's these men were sex symbols. Burt for being manly, Martin for being slick and Rod for oozing sex appeal. Judging them on today's standards they don't hold much but back in the era when leopard print on a man was outrageously fabulous you can see why.

Well you have to remember where she centers herself. She tries to place herself at the heart of an industry (fashion) which by it's very nature is judgemental purely on looks. She tries to be a model, designer, reviewer and all in a vacuoumous world of skin deep appearance.

The fact that she is only really in that area due to having worn some dresses and shoes on TV you can appreciate why people lash out at her.

Speaking of fashion, naiomi Campbell. Never got it!

The fashion industry is pretty artificial and odd by its nature.

And often high fashion top models aren't that conventionally good-looking, and can be downright odd-looking. And a lot of top designers are downright barmy-looking, and look like they shouldn't get anywhere near a naked flame. So it's not that surprising that someone of average looks can be celebrated in the fashion world. She has the main thing vaunted in that superficial world and that's a rail-thin figure.
