Im looking into hooking up a 3d projector to my pc, mostly for watching movies and probably gaming too.

I know the difference between active and passive 3d, I was just wondering if this depends on the projector or do I need software to run 3d?

I am in a similar situation except that I want to play short videos of basic 3D shapes, created on Autodesk 3D modelling software through a 3D projector. Would be very interested in any replies

Probably a bit too late with this reply, but it does depend on the projector. Also, I think there were one or two passive models required a special screen to display onto, open to correction on that though.
You'll need a 3D capable graphics card to display native 3D content, otherwise the Projector will be rendering a 3D image, which is the same really as a DVD being upscaled to HD, it's just not nearly as good!

Stereoscopic 3D player is free software and they have sample videos. If the sample videos work, 3d works

You can access the link to the Stereoscopic player from this page
