I'm getting a bad feeling that Gamestop are really dropping the ball with regards to the PS4 launch! You would think that a company that was saved by customers rejecting DRM would put those same loyal customers right at the core of their business plans!

Once I get my console (if they even deliver it) from GS I shall be buying every single game from Amazon or Tescos going forward!

Yeah, I ordered at the end of June and getting a bit worried now myself. It seems they are giving priority to instore customerss so online customers could see themselves having to wait for a 2nd batch.

I know for a fact one rather large smyths store is only getting 12 consoles in its first batch

This one is smaller, they told him they have 8 secured and could get 12 more for launch, but they did not seem to have that much faith in it.

Don't do that, you could accidentally damage the PS4!!! Chloroform, my friend, chloroform.

Ya gotta remember: They have preorders for between 1 and 1.5 million and they hope to fill these and a few more besides....... But this is worldwide. They'll sell them all anyway so it's a matter of prioritising. Get to your major markets first: US/UK/Probably France etc. We'll get our share but I don't think that there's gonna be any store getting a couple of hundred units unfortunately.

Also, I'm not a conspiracy theorist but I wouldn't be at all surprised if the first wave (Of both systems) was deliberately short: You build up a nice level of hysteria; the mainstream media do reports of people running into sores trying to get their machines, adults and kids crying either because they got one or because they didn't. Reports of every unit worldwide selling out instantly etc etc. Build it up as THE killer present to get Christmas 2013. then, just in time for Crimbo '13 there's a massive surge in availability.

It may not be fair on customers but it would be a great tactic and, so long as most customers can get their hands on one by Crimbo, everyone's happy (...... well, almost everyone)

France and Germany only have stock to guarantee people a console this year if you ordered before the 31st of August, they will not get more in till the end of January. It would be great for the consumer if we did get flooded, but it is not gonna happen :(

In fairness that most likely will happen somewhere. Our gamestop is in main street. I don't live to far from it too. I plan on leaving my car in main street in the evening as close as possible to GameStop it self. Then just walk to shop on launch. That way I know my car is parked as close as possible and I am not risking walking with ps4 far to my car.

I wonder how Smyths have divided up their stock, seems to be a unbalance with many stores.

Dont know really , its quite a large catchment area ?
    • Maybe they base it on store footfall ?
    • Average spend per transaction ?

Im sure someone in the HQ has a formula for it to maximise profits !

Delighted, was on my way to the one in Nass to put down my deposit down and 5 mins away I got a callout on a job over that neck of the woods and just dropped in there on my way !

Does anyone know if Gamestop online are guranteeing a console if you have ordered before a certain date? Ordered at the end of June so I figured I was sorted but this talk of such low quantities going into Smyths has me somebit aprehensive.

I emailed this to gamestop will let you know what reply (if any they give)

    Hi

Now that it is common knowledge that those that ordered the PS4 online can
not avail of the SONY Bundle offers (as also stated on your twitter account
by GS) I wish to express my disappointment in not being considered to avail
of a bundle, especially as I have been expressing my interest via email for
quite some time. I now would like confirmation that at the very least I
will be getting my console on launch day as I have pre ordered early on
    June 19th.

I want this confirmation as now I have lost faith that online orders are
being treated fairly by your company compared those those that order in
store and so once my console has been delivered it shall be the last
business I shall be having with Gamestop.

    Regards

They have not said anything to the contrary yet and you ordered before the cut off date, so you should be fine, but if there is a shortage it will affect online customers first, just down to the fact they will not have to deal with disgruntled customers face to face.

A Mate was just onto Harvey Normans in Nutgrove ,

Said they have availability countrywide on the bundle deal for before Xmas ???

If that becomes the case it will be a case for the consumer ombudsman from me.

Only real reason I went with Gamestop over Shopto or Amazon was because of the free delivery and getting it on launch day as opposed to the possibilty of getting it on the Monday or Tuesday with Amazon/Shopto. Dunno why I didn't just do it instore :pac:

Smyths Blanch - Pre-Orders before Aug 11th guaranteed before x-mas - no bundle info though

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,459 ✭✭✭T-b0n3

I haven't pre-ordered one, so by the sounds of things I shouldn't expect to be getting one till at least Jan/Feb!

Silly me not pre-ordering it ages ago when I knew I'd be getting one at some stage.

Is it worth pre-ordering one now or has that ship completely sailed?

You might as well have your name in the mix now. At least you'll have one when they do become available.

The page on the website says that anything after the 7th August isn't guaranteed, but the way they have been ignoring questions around online orders is a bit worrying. It seems like they have forgotten about them.

People on twitter have asked them if they are guaranteed a launch day sale for having pre-orders from July, but they responded asking them if their orders were in store or online. Wouldn't think it'd matter either way if their pre-orders were from July.

It was confirmed that Sony now have had over 1.5 million preorders for the PS4 as of the start of October.

You should get the games from Amazon, they are cheaper and you have the price guarantee, that or use a site like https://www.videogamesplus.ca/ were you can get PS4 games for €45 including delivery, thats what I am doing.
