Different colour primer, different colour top coat?

Hi there, Currently doing a DIY refurb on some alloy wheels, see here http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=86807743&postcount=690 For the first wheel I used filler primer which is yellow, if I was to change to a normal grey primer for the rest would the colour of the top coat be any different to the first one?. Hi there,

For the first wheel I used filler primer which is yellow, if I was to change to a normal grey primer for the rest would the colour of the top coat be any different to the first one?.

I feel like I'm using more colour coat than necessary when spraying onto yellow and therefore driving up the cost of the refurb.

What brand coat are you using? Tbh I don't see it making a particular difference since the top coat should cover the primer 100%
That said, if you change to grey primer you can maybe get a away with a thinner top coat but it may look uneven.

I think it's Simoniz but I'd have to double check.

I just feel like I am using a lot of paint covering up the yellow where as painting over grey might save paint. Not that I want to compromise on finish.

Next wheel I might try grey and see does the colour match ok
