This thread could really do with more love, its a nice addition the favourite VGM thread as it focuses on a particular style.

Here's some nice Atari 8-bit chiptunes I found tonight,
I never knew the POKEY chip could sound so nice:

This is an old favourite 8-bit performance of mine.

Joey Mariano blasting it out with a Gameboy rigged up to 8 footcontrollers, and using an 8-bit fuzz pedal with his guitar to get a great sound.
The last few minutes in particular are great:

She's awesome, she played the Workman's Club a few years back with Anamanaguchi and Henry Homesweet. Anyone catch that gig?

Would loved to have caught it.
I've never been to a chiptune gig before.
It's a shame there's nothing like that on in Cork.

It's a shame indeed, Chipzel dancing with a Gameboy was some sight :P

Actually, Anamanaguchi were in Cork the night before that, think KVX opened that night.

I heard about some night that's coming up in Cork, some place on Barrack street, chiptunes were mentioned anyway. I'll look for some info on it.

Another classic this time from legendary composer Jeroen Tel:

And boy does it sound great on a big system!

I went down to cork to see Anamanaguchi that night. Really awesome little show!

Here's one of my favorite VGM tracks, one of the few times I think the console version sounds better then the arcade version

Great tune, but can't help but cringe at all the geeky feckers with no rhythm trying to dance :D

Which venue did Anamanaguchi play in Cork lads?

Also could one of the mods please rename this thread to "The Chiptune Thread".
Anything chiptune related is welcome here, 16-bit chiptunes, remixes etc...

    Here's an oldie but goldie!

Reformat The Planet Chiptune Documentary - 2008

Uploaded officially in full by the makers, with very insightful annotations.

Playlist link so you don't need to click the 7 videos individually.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MYHDWc9GPZU&list=PL3FF92D5E85762A75

"Reformat the Planet (RTP) is a feature length documentary which delves into the movement known as chip music, a vibrant underground scene based around creating new, original music using obsolete video game hardware. Familiar devices such as the Nintendo Game Boy and Nintendo Entertainment System are pushed in new directions with startling results."

I can't laugh as I would be no diffierent!

Are you saying you have mad dancing skills? :D

BTW, Jeroen Tel is probably the first person I have ever seen to do "Air Synth!"

One of my favourite bits of Reformat The Planet is hearing Glomag's rendition of Hotel California by the Eagles.

The track is called "Tiere Necken Mit Langen Stecken" and you can download it for free along with the rest of his album here:

    Holy Crap!

If you played this track to me and asked me what sound chip it was, I would definitely have said the SID!

At least for the PWM sounds anyway.

    Can't believe its the YM2149!

They played Cyprus Avenue, November 2010 I think.

There's a night on in the Gateway bar on Barrack street, not sure when it's on, but it's called "Strict". Apparently there's chiptunes being played, might check it out next time it's on.

    Thanks for that Sir!

I'll always remember the following when playing Batman The Movie with my uncle from the age of three or so:

I realise that this was probably covered in the above Ocean Loaders vid but i love it with these visuals too.

Never used an Amiga myself but some cracking music was wrote on them.

    An amazing machine it was.

Lotus 2 that you have linked is one of the best examples of the music it had. Others I can think of are Xenon 2 Megablast, Speedball 2, Chaos Engine, Gods, Full Contact. There's tons more.

I love the Amiga and it had some killer audio chops to say the least.
I've been loading up a lot of Amiga demos over the last few weeks as I'm setting up a new CF Card hard disk in one of my A1200's and the demos are great but the audio in a lot of them is just amazing.
