well I'm off to the newsagents immediately as I'm only dying to hear about Roisín Ingle's latest adventures in Irishtimesmagazineland. Maybe she ate some more chocolate? Maybe her boyfriend didn't like her new top? #soexcited

So you think the Left are all Rainbows and Cuddles do you....

Lol at anti-semitism being left-wing! :pac:

OP, I know it's fashionable for your ilk to like the Jews now, but I'ma... assume you hated them before 9/11, as all right-wing loons did. :)

Planned parenthood - oh noez! Yet, again, I'm going to assume you're the type who takes issues with people having a lot of children "for benefits".

    You're hilarious!

Why just say "left" when you mean extreme left? The extreme left is full of assholes, but the moderate left, yeh, is pretty great.

More to this politics stuff than right and left.
    There's also right and wrong.

The moderate right are ok as well, the extreme on both sides are clowns.

Not every right wing person wants to exterminate others and goose step around the place!

Sometimes telling it as it is is enough to get labelled right wing these days.

I'd consider myself a moderate lefty and don't relate one bit to the extreme left at all. Massive disparity between the two.

However, I'd rather meet them than extreme right-wingers down a dark alley on a night out though. I live in a very working class, very left-wing neighbourhood of Madrid where you'd meet a lot of supposed extremists (they'd call themselves Communists, in fact) and they're good people with good intentions unlike the extreme right-wingers in this city (of which there are plenty) who threaten and intimidate and cause trouble. You couldn't say the two groups are as dangerous as one another.

Obviously when we get into a discussion about leaders of totalitarian governments like North Korea, Nazi Germany, Spain under Franco etc. they're all as bad as each other.

Are you the crazy Israeli embassy guy who gets drunk at Christmas and gives out about Palestinians murdering Jesus?

Pro Planned Parenthood article here (courtesy of the in-house radical feminist):

(comments section had to be shut down because it was such a clusterf*ck)

    Anti Semitic article here:

    http://www.irishtimes.com/news/world/middle-east/it-is-the-everyday-harassment-that-shows-the-hatred-behind-official-israeli-ideology-1.1547793

Have they not learned from the very recent past?

    http://www.aleteia.org/en/lifestyle/news/pro-life-protest-outside-irish-times-ireland-3977001

Is the Irish Times struggling for relevance in the information age by having to resort to publishing left-wing troll articles? The sooner this pimple on society pops; the better for this country -- a moderate, tolerant and principled Ireland.

Are people of your views struggling for relevence given that pretty much the entire country is moving on from taking our orders from the pulpit?

And what's anti-semitic about reporting on Palestinians getting their homes bulldozed? It's a reality, I've seen it with my own eyes. Nothing about the Jewish faith in that article, nor about Israel's right to exist - just about their unacceptable conduct towards the palestinian people...

Agreed. Plenty of moderate conservatives whom I have great time for, and some eejits just condemn them as soon as they see the word "conservative" associated with them.

Fully agreed. I can't abide e.g. Eirigí, but I'd still prefer them to the EDL!

And I'm prrrrrrrritty sure the catholic church didn't have great things to say about the Jews back in the day.

Indeed as the Golden Dawn Party in Greece has shown along with sister parties in other European nations Right Wing Extremism seems to be the order of the day.

Golden Dawn has turned from a threat into a party capable of murder and intimidation and racism.

Was more referring to the "Planned Parenthood - oh noes" but, but you are of course correct :P

Don't John Waters and Breda O'Brien have weekly columns?

Both of them are just awful writers though, just absolutely awful, particularly Waters.

Waters is a sad little straw man who is too self-obsessed to realise that he isgiven space so that he can be torn down with ease and vindicate the opinions of the majority of the readership.

Waters exists to give an appearance of diversity of opinion in the paper.

I wasn't aware a woman wanting to control when she got pregnant was automatically worthy of the comment "radical feminist".

    Whats "anti semitic" about it?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,390 ✭✭✭clairefontaine

These labels sometimes obfuscate for than they clarify. But overall yes the IT has been filled wig rag propaganda lately.

Anti Semitic is thrown about all over the place on bothe sides of the political wing.

Technically because I support the European Councils official stance on circumcision, I would be considered anti Semitic, even though I'm a judeophile (except for all the god and circumcisions).

How in the name of christ is that article Anti-Semitic?

Criticism of the state of Israel is not anti-semitic and to suggest otherwise is idiocy.

This is usually a codephrase for "incoherent babbling about immigration/abortion/gay marriage/other"; it's up there with "I'm not a racist but [insert racist diatribe]".

If we were harder on certain communities it would integrate them better an be better for every one in the long run.

Typical oul liberal attitude, defend anything other than your own culture call anyone you don't agree with racist.

Also what does abortion have to do with racism?

Nope, but I see them as the lesser of two evils. The left at least tries to have good intentions at heart. I've heard nothing but hate from the extreme right.

I do think that centre left is best socially, though because it's more inclusive than the centre right.

This I agree with. The IT are quite smart about hiding their true left-wing motives.
