    Hi all

I am putting a car back on the road after it was 4 years off.. I have done the usual suspects like brakes/ plugs/ oil/ fluids/ filters/ tyres and checked rubbers etc to make her fit for road and the rest will be determined by the NCT results ;-)

Anyway she is running beautifully and the engine is smooth however I'm getting a manky smell from her when running, it's like someone burnt the dinner, I originally thought it was the clutch slipping cos it wasn't a million miles away from that burnt cabbage smell from a clutch, but I get the smell even when not driving, just when the car is idling in the drive...

Any suggestions? Could it be a thing that I need to run some of that fuel mix stuff you pour into your filler cap when you want to clean out the internals a bit because it was left sitting for so long??

    Thanks for reading
    H

How fresh is the fuel ?

Best to give it a few good runs with new fuel, and then see if the problem persists

Has oil leaked/spilled on the exhaust manifold?

Or has something built a nest on/in the exhaust?

Pa - yep that has crossed my mind, I have put in fresh fuel just yesterday and am kinda hoping that will remedy it over time... But still not sure!

Ba - haha I was actually thinking the same, I thought I was cooking some dead animal under there... I'll have another check along the whole way from manifold to back box just to be sure ;-)

I remember before seeing something similar.

One other though is to try and check all the wiring again behind the dash board if possible. Something could have chewed on them.

I had the same,it was a thin mossy algae on the engine/exhaust. A good hard run should sort all that out.

Grand job, I got the 'off the road' tax thing out of the way last week before the cut off so as soon as the insurance is on I'll take her for a good long stretch and keep an eye on everything.. NCT is not till December so should be time enough to weed out any obvious issues :)
