Good stuff RR. The best thing is that you enjoyed it and felt strong at the end :D

Oh and also I love it when I'm right ;)

Ha Ha, yes it was good advice. The 2 min breaks were very beneficial especially with the windy section. It was a great confidence booster tonight...and I learned that I have an entry for London 2014:D:D:D

    ...Great news!
If I were you I'd wait for that marathon and build up slowly for your ideal time rather than trying to fit in your mileage in this short time for DCM.

Spoil sport ! Yeah I hear what you're saying but I'm confident that if the next few LSRs go well I can still do a better time than last year so I think its worth a try. I fully plan to take a few weeks off after DCM to give the body some quality recovery time.

having said all that , if get another injury flare up in next few weeks the any decision to reconsider DCM will be a lot easier.

I know, I kind of felt a bit bad writing that cause you seem really pumped and positive at how your training has gone this week and who am I to comment being an armchair athlete at the moment really.
But I'd have to agree with you, if you get any more niggles then put it off and work up slowly to the time you clearly deserve in London. :)

We'll done on the great run and the London entry RR, what a good week it's been for you! You sound so full of confidence compared to a couple of weeks ago, I think you're going to put in a great showing at DCM.

When/how did you hear about London? I thought places weren't being announced til October?

Thanks ncmc, yes so far so good. A good LSR at weekend will be icing on the cake.

I used my brother's address in UK and he just text me to say I got in. He got something in post so he is sending it over to me so it sounds good. Now I just have to break the news to OH:eek:

I used an aunts address in London, but in my haste, I think I put the address in wrong, so it doesn't look good for me getting an entry :( I wasn't overly hopeful anyway, the chances are very slim... you did really well to get in!

Just tell the OH that you're taking her on a Romantic city break to London.... don't tell her about the marathon til you're on the plane :pac:

Ha ha good one. Yes , you know its going to happen , haven't gone through any training cycle yet without an injury! It's all yours if it happens,I'll defo have a GFA then for the following year;)

TBH though, like the All-Ireland Ticket, I'll believe it when I have it in my hand and I'm reading it myself that I've been successful in my application.

    Friday 27th September

Enforced Rest. Brought the gear into work with the intention of doing recovery run at lunchtime but ended up being too busy and couldn't get it in. With the OH going out last night couldn't do it then either.

    Saturday 28th September

Football match with the youngest so it was an afternoon run for me. Just wanted to do an easy one to loosen the legs up for tomorrow's long run.

Nothing significant to report, felt very easy and no trouble from back or any of my long list of niggles.

    Sunday 29th September

Plan was to do 18 miles today and this would top off what has been a decent week for me on the trail back from a couple of different injuries. The next few week's long runs are crucial for me to have any chance of putting in a decent run on 28th next month so today was a very important run for me.

Ran without any earphones so that I could have a mental one on one with myself without any distraction should the going get tough. Was feeling a bit iffy yesterday evening, that sort of feel a cold coming on type of feeling so was hoping this wouldnt impact todays efforts either.

As the No1 son was playing football in Ardee this morning I had to move this one to the afternoon. It was quite warm conditions so brought a 500ml bottle of water with me, my water belt had two 175ml bottle one which I filled with water and the other with lucozade sport ( as this is being handed out on the big day). I had two Gu gels (Vanilla and Triberry) which I wanted to try out and three salt tablets.

    Miles 1-6

Felt good. Had to slow myself down a couple of times as I was tipping along in the 9:30s and I wanted to be 9:40 +

    Miles 7-13

Running into a headwind for all of this so was glad to be able to maintain an even pace for this section. Was starting to feel it a bit from mile 8. Took first gel at mile 9.Vanilla--very tasty. Appealed to my sweet tooth;)

    Miles 14-18

In the early part of this section was starting to feel it more now but it didnt seem to be affecting the pace, in fact I quickened a little and had to hold it back.Took next gel at 15. Took the salt tablets at 1hr, 2hrs and 2hrs 30ish. I think they made a difference but not 100% about that.

So there you go, got my 18 in as planned and everything went really well......oh hang on a second there is one last thing I must mention, ah yes of course the last section;):D:pac:

    Miles 19-20

Yes, I was feeling like I could do more so I took a chance on it knowing what a good psychological boost it could be to hit the magic 20 mark. So for this section I entered a Forest Gump-like trance and just kept the legs moving under me. In my head I was punching the air with joy having done this.

Brilliant! Talk about getting back on track with a bang! A quote I heard once, running a marathon is 95% mental and the rest is in your head, so I think today's run will be a MASSIVE boost come the 28th.

Eek, 4 weeks tomorrow! Getting close :)

What time you aiming for then?

Yes it was huge for me today ncmc, i'm delighted and the back didnt cause me any trouble. Legs a bit worn out now but they've been worse.

Well that run is a real confidence booster, I forgot about your time from last year since your times since have come on so much. Its looking good for a pb alright. You're already running faster than that pace in training with your set backs and all.

All depends though on that last 10k.That has been my downfall the last two years. I think last year I did it in 75 mins:eek:.

A 22 miler might be an idea?
I was the same too, 68 mins last 10km.
I think you'll swing it if your injuries hold together.

    Monday 30th September

Rest day and a very long day at work

    Tuesday 1st October

Working late again but ran home from work. Easy run , pace quite slow although it felt faster than it was. Probably still tired from long run followed by long day in work.

Glad to get the miles in anyway and hopefully will be a bit fresher tomorrow.

    Wednesday 2nd October

Working late again so by the time I got home it was too late and hadnt the enrgy to do a session so thought it best to leave it till next day.

Instead did 30 mins on bike and some foam rolling.

    Thursday 3rd October

Session Time: Hadnt done a Meno session in along time so was both looking forward to and a bit nervous about doing this but just went out to do as much of it as possible and see how I got in.

    So it was supposed to be 2 mi w/up 10mi alternating mp+/- 3-4% and 2 mi c/d

As my mp is 9mins/mi was aiming for 9:15,8:45

    It went like this:

    w/up - 9:55,9:45

    Session: 9:12,8:41,9:12,8:43,9:12,8:44,9:15,8:46,9:09,8:39

    cd (1.25mi) 10:10,(10:28)

    13.25mi@9:12avg

    Avg HR: 136
    Max HR: 161

Have now surpassed last year's total mileage of 895:)

Back a little sore now though so hope thats ok in the morning:(

    Friday 4th October

Meant to get out at lunchtime for recovery run but work mental at moment. When I got home that evening all I was fit for was a very large glass of wine!

    Saturday 5th October

Hoped to get out for a short run to loosen the legs but a 12 hour + day at work put an end to that:(

    Sunday 6th October

Back at work again this morning but only a few hours so ran from work for this one. 22 was the plan and taking Menos advice I would take them easy and concentrate on just getting the miles in.

So set out from city centre heading south and took in some of the marathon course from clonskeagh, roebuck, foster ave, nutley lane then over to merrion gates and over across east link , east wall and out the coast to sutton where I went up and down a couple of times till I made up the mileage.

Feeling ok for the most part, tired I suppose but I've been working alte most nights this week and in again at weekend. This was only my third run of the week too. Went to plan though and felt reasonably strong at the end. Another 20+ run under the belt is great, another one next week and I'll be in decent fettle for DCM I hope.

    22mi @9:48 in 3hrs 35mins

Wore my HR monitor but about two thirds of way into run it slipped down to around my belly button and I couldnt be bothered fixing it.The weight was just falling off me obviously:D Took just one gel, 300ml water, one salt stick, and two 175ml bottles with half zero tab in each.

    Splits:9:49,9:49,10:01,10:11,10:23,10:07,10:12,9:53,9:50,9:46,9:33,9:46,9;44,

Well done, it's great to see you back & doing so well! Are you doing the long run with the club on Sunday? If so, you should come for breakfast after - sounds like lots of people are.

I did my 20 (or maybe a fraction over 20) on Sunday & felt pretty ok. Needless to say, without you & your trusty watch, I don't know my splits / pace / anything, but it felt like an OK pace and took us about 2.55. Just glad to have it done! :)

AND I had my poor old legs dealt with yesterday evening and the physio is pretty pleased with my ankle progress. Hurray! (And thanks to him and his healing hands!)
