shaving.ie has some sort of silver stuff that stops bleeding, it's good manly stuff that stings the feck out of your face for a few seconds.

I just let it bleed cause that's even more manly looking.

Alum scumlord, like what I said.

It helps to have your shower before you shave, helps to soften up your beard, but it's a bit of a bummer trying to stop the mirror from fogging up

A small blow heater on for a few minutes gets rid of that problem

    My ritual.

Flannel wash in very hot water, steaming face as I go, brush is already charged with best quality soap.

Brushing in circular motion for about 2 minutes to soften and raise the bristles.

Rinse safety razor in hot water then start shaving, I only go with the grain and just shave once.

I then flannel excess soap off, drain handbasin and splash cold water to seal the pores.

If needs be I use Alum so stop any bleeding but vary rarely nick myself.

    Hope this makes sense.

I have a Merkur futur adjustable razor, edwin jagger massive super badger brush and at the moment am using crabtree and evelyn shaving soap.

I know everyone says "don't go against the grain" but actually, I find that if I dab shaving oil, or aftershave on my face after shaving, I can both go against the grain (getting a super close shave) and never get ingrown hairs.

The oil, or the aftershave, make the remnant of the hair stand up straight at the follicle, and ingrown hairs are (in my experience) very rare.

+1 to everyone who steams or showers their face before shaving, I would never have a shave straight out of bed, in a cold bathroom.

Dock leaves are slightly astringent. I've used them a few times when I've cut myself shaving. Just bruise a leaf and dab the affected areas with it.. seems to work as well as the commercially available products.

I shave in the shower. Ordinary disposable and shave gel. No mess to clean up after.

    Nice.

    Nice.

Out of interest, are you on any "Extreme Shaving Forums". I just liked the last line, its like on the gaming forums where they have a signature which says Pentium 7, 2028 GGB DDR7 Cache 2, Radeon Analiser, or on the in car entertianment ones that says Pioneer DB7, B&O Pre Amp, 2 x MonsterBass 100Kwat Subwoofers, 2x Songbird 50k Tweeters.

OK, you're out on your lawn at 6.40 am .......... down on all fours ........ possibly naked ........... searching for dock leaves ......... and your face resembling a mop in an abattoir.

I forked out on a very expensive blade and full shaving set about a year back.. Genuine badger brush and the whole lot. I've used it about twice so far. It's a nice novelty but seriously not worth the hassle when you're up early for work, in a hurry and rushing about still half asleep.

I'll be sticking with the auld Mach 3 for a while yet.

I use a DE, plain old Gillette shaving foam, and I've an alum block for nicks. Takes no longer than a mach 3 shave, better result, and hell of a cheaper.

Use the nice cremes and stuff for proper me time shaves. Proraso sensitive, Taylor's of Bond St and American Crew.

I watched my Dad shaving, when I was a kid. He used an old DE, I thought it was the manliest thing ever. I started shaving with a Mach 3, and tried all variations and the like. Was never super happy, and by jebus, a nick with a Mach 3 hurts and bleeds a **** load more than a DE nick ever will.

Of course you don't, dear boy. It's a winter's morning, you have no outside light or flashlamp and the problem that you don't see ......... is because there is none. No dock leaves on your beautifully manicured green carpet. :D

My brother taught me how to awfully shave when I was younger. Then I had a sudden urge to start shaving with a double edged razor and have shaved properly ever since.

Have you heard of www.shaving.ie? It's like tescos prices expect your buying the top end gear.

Dump the disposables and get yourself a safety razor, I have a full beard now and could just shave the whole thing off without trimming first using a safety razor, they're incredible.
I occasionally have a beard and there's something extremely satisfying about using my DE razor on it as it never looks like something I should be able to shave through in a traditional fashion.

I like the look of that Feather, might invest after I use up the 6 months supply of Tesco Blades I bought the other week, twas 4 for €2.99 and 8 of the exact same product for €2.79, how long to you get out of each blade?
Try a sample pack of blades when you get the razor. You can work out which blade suits you best. A 100 pack of blades is around 25 and I normally switch it out after 4 or 5 shaves. You'll always feel like you've had a fantastic shave after it.

They should revoke that man's barbers licence. (smooth crew)

You shave with your own grain, not some technical theory.

The grain on my neck runs sideways. Everyone has a different grain pattern, just like finger prints.

Listen to someone who knows what's what. Mach 3's damage your skin and beard.

Its very erotic to shave a man with a real razor.

    (IMHO) :P

I use disposable razors, a 5 pack for 19p at a discount store.
I don't even use foam, just a drop of water, I just shave the sides as I have a chin beard and moustache.

Short answer is no...long answer is, that is the first time I have ever listed any gear that I use for any thread, and I don't think I ever will again now <sulks>

    lol

Just thought it would give an idea of the stuff I use that I like and works for me

I don't always go WTG, XTG, ATG.

Some parts of my neck I can hit with ATG with a sharp straight on the first pass and only need shave once - another part of my neck is a sensitive razor burn nightmare unless I carefully follow the contours and grain.

I guess I'm saying you have to figure out what works for you and not let people tell you that you must shave up or down in certain spots.

Good prep, sharp blades and mindfulness of your grain are the three things that work best for me.

If I am shaving someone else, I stick with the grain pattern and rarely give them an ATG finish - it's too close and just leads to burn, unless they request it. Most people I shave have never had a straight razor shave and I think it takes getting used to.

I often wonder why people buy Bic razors, they must have some other function other than as razorblades, because they are good for fcuk all in that regard.

They're not great but they do the job and you'll still have change in your pocket after buying them. I guess it depends on the individual though and how thick their growth is etc.

King of Shaves razors and some shower gel. No drama, no snobbery. A single razor lasts me 4 months, I shave every 2-3 days.

My brother showed me with my Dad's ancient razor using Wilkinson Sword blades, did not get a very close shave. Use a Mach 3 now and does the trick.

I wish I'd could go every 2-3 days without. Once a day is the longest I can leave it, generally twice a day for me. Cave man here.

I was thinking about getting a straight razor but I read that apparently the well-to-do gentleman back in the day had one for each day of the week and stropped them all daily. Dunno how true that is, but it seems like a lot of work.

You can resharpen the safety razors, I was using one for a year and a half before the rubber bits on it came apart.
