    Yep. Neck shave!

Still a very normal thing in recruit training etc

On the edge of the square with sleet falling.

I forked out on a very expensive blade and full shaving set about a year back.. Genuine badger brush and the whole lot. I've used it about twice so far. It's a nice novelty but seriously not worth the hassle when you're up early for work, in a hurry and rushing about still half asleep.

I'll be sticking with the auld Mach 3 for a while yet.
It is more laborious but it is a better shave if you have the time. I don't shave every day, I don't even shave every week but the safety razor is perfect for people with beards that just need to tidy up. Mach 3s can't deal with any significant amount of hair.

    1. First of all wet your face with hot water.

    2. Smear shaving gel on your face. A shaving stick or shaving foam are not as good to fill every crevice of your face.

    3. Run the razor under a hot tap and each time you run the razor over your face run it under the hot tap.

    4. Use you finger to hold the flesh taut and purse your mouth and move it to left or right depending on which side you shave to pull the skin taut.

    5. Start with the sideburns first.

    6. Once you have the sideburns shave, shave your cheeks diagonally rather than downward.

    7. When you shave your jawline drag the razor along the edge of the jaw towards the chin with downward strokes.

    8. Shave under the chin and down as far as the adam's apple with downward strokes.

    9. Shave under your bottom lip and shave your chin.

    10. Shave your upper lip last because usually the hair is thickest on your face on your upper lip. Curl your upper lip under your teeth so the skin is taut and shave the center of the skin below your nose first with a downward stroke. Keep your lip taut and when you shave either side shave with the head of the razor turned sideways and draw it across to both corners of your mouth.

    11. If you cut yourself tear off a tiny square of toilet paper and stick it on the cut and when the wound stops bleeding remove the paper slowly and you will leave no unsightly scap.

    12. After you towel down your jaw have a shaving lotion and moisturizer to rub on your face.

Have you heard of www.shaving.ie? It's like tescos prices expect your buying the top end gear.

Dump the disposables and get yourself a safety razor, I have a full beard now and could just shave the whole thing off without trimming first using a safety razor, they're incredible.

I like the look of that Feather, might invest after I use up the 6 months supply of Tesco Blades I bought the other week, twas 4 for €2.99 and 8 of the exact same product for €2.79, how long to you get out of each blade?

What works for one person won't necessarily work for another. Everyones hair grain goes in different directions so you have to find the grain of your own face, don't just depend on what works for other people.

No, I found it pretty self explanatory. Blade cuts hair, run balde over face, hair gone.

And finish up like a scene from The Somme? Please be more careful. A good shave is an acquired skill. You have to use fewer bits of toilet paper as the years go by.

I get a long time, I've never had a blade go dull on me, I usually end up changing them for no reason whatsoever. I think I got 100 of them for €30 last time I order, they'll last me years.

Apparently a private was dragged before his superior for not shaving in the morning.

"We have only got one mirror between the forty of us sir."

"What f*cking difference does that make private?"

"Well I think this morning I shaved the wrong face sir."

Scrolling through the thread I was thinking of what to write, and it's pretty much this, word for word.

Proper hot towel + cream (I use the dirt cheap Palmolive stuff you get for about €1.70 per tube and it still works wonders) + nice safety razor (mine was €35, will probably last a lifetime) + DE blade of choice (my fave brand is Astra - you can get a pack of 100 for approx. €15, and that's not a typo) = best shave you will ever have, with the obvious exception of a straight razor.

Trim it with a straight razor...the duck dynasty look is getting old.

I often wonder why people buy Bic razors, they must have some other function other than as razorblades, because they are good for fcuk all in that regard.

i use the orange bic single blade razors from time to time, never any cuts from them.Id say they are the best of a bad lot

Yep, also when in a forest while using your helmet to collect river water and then shave raw.

    Pretty normal tbh

I use feather blades and replace them every 3-5 days ish, I think you could probably flip 'em over and use the other edge but I don't bother, probably don't need to change them that oftenbut that is what I do.

Boiling water with the razor for the closest shave.
If you ever need to do the toilet paper for a cut, wet it before you apply it. Comes off much cleaner afterwards, "washes" the blood, and won't reopen the cut.

It helps to have your shower before you shave, helps to soften up your beard, but it's a bit of a bummer trying to stop the mirror from fogging up

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,396 ✭✭✭Frosty McSnowballs

I get a good shave in the shower.

I shower then lather up the mush, shave, face scrub, shower, air dry that ****, then moisturise.

    Smooth as my ballbag.

You can get anti fogging mirrors, or spit on it or wipe a bit of shaving foam across and then rinse off.

Put shower gel on the mirror first. One whole side of my shower is mirrored. I just lash shower gel on and it stops it fogging up.

shaving.ie has some sort of silver stuff that stops bleeding, it's good manly stuff that stings the feck out of your face for a few seconds.

I just let it bleed cause that's even more manly looking.

I used to buy Gillette super ultradooper Mach 99 blades which were nearly a tenner for 4 but now buy Gillette disposable things that give as good a shave as they others at half the price. I taught myself to shave, my dad says to me when I was around 14 to get up to that feckin bathroom and shave that fluff off your face for fecks sake ya hairy fecker so I did and tore the absolute ****e out of my face doing so.

a hot shower beforehand makes all the difference... or at least aim hot water over your face at the end.
I've barely had to change blades as it's a doddle to cut through.

However, if I dont get a chance to shower before shaving, it's a bloody mess!
