I am just wondering... when i get married, my B2B is not Irish and a lot of her family attending the wedding don't have great English and certainly wouldn't be aux fait with UK/Irish/US songs, as such, particularly older stuff. That's not a problem, but I need/want them to have an enjoyable night too, so we want to do some traditional/folk music from their country at some stage.

Is this a problem for a DJ? The plan would be to provide the MP3s to the DJ obviously in advance, but just wondering what you might think?

It's getting increasingly common, as you can imagine, for one or even both of the married couple to be from another country and as long as the dj gets notice of the music and ideally it's also supplied to them then they will be delighted to have more tunes that should work with their crowd. It's not advised to hand the dj a cd when they turn up at the venue as nowadays many will be digital only and may not have the means to play it so an email or dropbox share in advance might be better.

That's cool, yeah we would hope to send on a USB stick of the relevant songs etc.. or something like that.

it's great that that can be done, one of the reasons (other than budget) they we are considering an all night DJ. Although, admittedly I still have a hankering for a live band, because I love live music...

We'll see how we go, ultimately budget might be the deciding factor in the end.

a good band is better than a good dj
a good dj is better than an average band

If you cant stretch the budget for a good band or cant find one within your budget, dont settle for "the best we could find for a limited budget", get yourself a really good DJ instead and save yourself a grand or so.

Recently I was a dj at an German/Irish wedding 50 percent split between Irish German.
German people bought memory stick with about 25 songs,
At the end of the night our German friends were still on the floor long after the Irish went home (3.30am)
    Worked really well>

Im just wondering has anybody got any experinece of been to a wedding and just having a dj , instead of a band and a dj. my wife to be reckons she just wants a dj , that she hardly recalls any of the bands that play at weddings she's been to??

I know a guy who does this, he is actually very good, He will be playing at my wedding in three weekends time. PM me if you want details.
