Rover 45 1.4 (103BHP), Passed NCT today. Taxed till end of month. Fully valeted, low mileage

Asking €500, no doubt yours for €400 cash

    Full-23416248.jpeg

By no means a great car, but far more refined than many bangers posted here in that price bracket :)

Sweet light engine, likes to be revved to near 7k. Just make sure you won't let it overheat. These engines were used in motor sport for years (Lotus Elise, Caterham, etc.)

    My ads on adverts.ie:

Victron stuff for sale, Multiplus-II, Quattro, other inverters and batteries and usually some watches!

If that Rover checks out it should make a good car for someone

If it's still hanging around on Saturday I might just pop in for a look as I'll not be far away ;)

Although at that price I don't expect it will be

If thats still available next week I'd be very tempted to have a look at it myself!

Anyway, the princely sum of €18 later, there’s a new stat in there and the needle is rock solid on 90º again and there doesn’t seem to be any other after effects. It’s probably worth flushing the cooling system at the weekend just for peace of mind. Another key tenet of bangernomics, not being afraid to get your hands dirty, has helped to restore my faith :). Will keep you posted on the odyssey.

keep an eye on the coolant level and thermostat housing, if its anything like mine it could be weeping coolant.
Fix is give the surfaces a rub of emery/sand paper. failing that (like mine) put in a make shift gasket.:)

These are the last models produced by SAAB before GM took over!!!
    Really though?

A bit of online poking tells me that the engine might well be a Saab block, not GM. Wouldn't be so sure about the rest of it though..

The 900 was built on a GM platform and released 6 years before his was built though

Or you could get the Honda version for similar money which can also rev past 7k, but is also far more reliable and better screwed together than those 45's :)

Pricey, but nice long test. End Nov '14
    1 months tax.
    Looks nice.
    Shame its a manual.
€2k is def dreamer territory for a manual, but it might be worth a look for the right buyer.

Beautiful car, but dont they need a timing chain every 60k? I'd try and factor that into purchase price.

the later 190s had a duplex chain, (as opposed to a single in the earlier versions, pre 88 iirc), i'd say there's plenty of life left in the chain yet. It will rattle a bit if its in need of a change.

Is it just me that likes the old volvo estates? I think they look so oddball that I want one.

would that be suitable for an LPG conversion?

He will fix it for an extra €250. Damage doesn't look too bad.

Yup, its a GM alright with a heavy heavy dose of what Jeremy Clarkson said in the Saab tribute a few years ago.

It actually shares very little with GM products with only about 25% of its components useable on other GM vehicles. Floorpan, steering rack and some electical architecture is about it. Everything else was Saab.
