Quick guide for mechanical engineering

    I'm doing a personal project which involves mechanics. I would like to get a solid first hand grounding of various types of mechanical technology, such as gearing, pistons, fluid containers, etc. Is there a guide out there that outlines different bits of industry standard devices and technology?
