I can't vouch for their duability yet, but they are super smooth and yes I can notice a massive difference between them and my old standard FSA bearings.

Halfway through gluing tubs, first ever attempt...it's actually a bit less daunting than I thought...though I'll probably be tip-toeing my way around corners til I grow confident in my DIY skills...:o

Changed my came-with-the-bike wheels for Ksyrium Elites. Bike looks completely different now - well sexy. Will give them their maiden voyage tomorrow for the Wicklow Peaks before really testing them on the Étape next weekend.

Next up is to change my durty ould white bar tape for some nice new tape, and that'll be her all gussied up for the trip to France.

Finally a new headset for my bike. Left the bearings to settle down overnight with retaining compound. The old set didn't look bad, but the bearings were rather worn. Next time a new bar tape, new stem bolts and possibly a new chain are planned

Did a paint job on the brake levers of my second bike. The old aluminium color looked terrible and out of place so i painted them black. Made a neat job of them too. Looks the real deal now.

New chain, casette and gear cables installed.

Also i changed the spd pedals to shimano racing pedals. Next upgrade are the bottle cages which are ordered.

I sold my Boardman Team Carbon frame so I put the wheels on my Carrera TDF commuter. I also changed the steel forks for carbon forks I got with a damaged Giant I took as a trade in. I put a shiney new chain on it too. The TDF is 1.5kg lighter as a result, though I doubt the chain has much to do with the weight loss :-)

Changed track bike tyres from extremely cheap Vittoria Zaffiros to realtively cheap Conti Ultra Race. Instant difference. Tubeless Ultremos came in same order, can't wait to see how that works out now.

Bought and fitted a sprung Brooks saddle to my project bike today. And shellac'd the cork grips. Need to sand them down a bit tomorrow though.

Next up, wheels and a respray.

Confirmed selling my old single speed commuter too. Equally happy to get the space/funds and sad to see her go.

Yesterday I had a puncture, I changed tube and went to put the wheel back on but while doing so the quick release broke.

I was stranded 25k from home. After making a few calls I eventually got somebody to come and collect me, though I was an over an hour in total standing at the side of the road in the pissing rain.

I hope so!

That's what I did yesterday evening. I also managed to eliminate some (but not all

) annoying noises. Found two quite loose spokes on the rear wheel, tightened them and spend a few minutes making sure the wheel stayed true. Nice job for a sunny evening with the dog helping as best he could. May have a little look for the remaining noise over the weekend. Seems like something is touching the chain.

Swapped out my bars and stem. It was some craic putting the bar tape on I think it's a black art getting that stuff on right.

I'm riding super cheap slick zaffiros now (10gbp for the pair ;-) ) and I am quite happy with them. Good grip in any weather, reasonably fast. What can I expect from better ones?

The realisation that what you thought was good grip and decent speed was way off. I have them on my back up wheels, and they're great at sucking the joy out of cycling.

In other news, i changed my track fork for one with a brake drilling, fitted a brake and lever. I can now start racing the track league because i can cycle there.

black bar tape would really suit that bike.

I've been stripping my frame in order to sell it.

Been trying to remove these cranks for nearly 2 hours now, any ideas on how to get them off? I'm using a crank extractor that takes an 8mm allen key that just won't turn anymore. Made feck all progress too, they're barely off.

It was too warm for shoes, you're just lucky there wasn't a chest-high picture.

Gave up in the end and dropped it to the LBS shop, 1 minute with a better extractor and they were off. Lesson learned, don't buy cheap tools.

And so my newbie cycling addiction spirals out of control...

First steps towards building my first road bike - so I can do longer rides and join a club once they start accepting members again come October.

It's a Ridley 2012 frame that CRC had on major reduction plus a Tiagra groupset that merlin cycles were doing a special on.

It's getting whatever I can get on special offer added to it - I got a FSA stem for 4.90 euro from CRC on flash sale as well as drop-bars for 12e because they were slightly (I can't see it) scratched from being used in a display model.

I finally filed down an old fork crown so I could put a 26.4mm race onto the 27mm fork crown.

I have been putting it off for months and it took 10 minutes last night. Having a digital calipers really helped. Now I just have to get the cups into the frame tonight, and I know there will be issues, there always is.

Next up, staining the leather to match the saddle. After that, further shallac-ing to match the handlebars to the saddle and grip. I have far much time on my hands.

Got a set of second hand Aksiums from mick.murphy

Swapped the campy freehub for a Shimano one that he provided, put on my new cassette and mounted the wheels. It's starting to look like a bike now!

Still need the chain, and all the cabling but it's coming along.

I fitted the chain and cabled and adjusted the brakes last night after the kids went to bed.

Still no gear cables so I now have the world's least hip single speed bike!

I took it for its first ride last night around the local school playground. It was my first time ever using a drop-bar bike and it felt a bit like a circus act at the start but I got to like it pretty quickly

Fitted a new set of Fulcrum Quattros the other night. Have to say they look fantastic, haven't been out for a spin yet but they seem to spin forever. They're not the lightest at 1810gr but their looks make up for the weight.

Update: went for a short 30k spin this morning. Had a reasonably strong head wind for the first 15k but my speed was up and I wasn't putting in any extra effort. The wheels definitely do spin easier and for longer. I rode the route as I normally do and didnt try any harder yet still managed to knock a full 4 minutes from my previous best time. Result, I think.

Rescued a seized Ceramic GXP Bottom Bracket bearing last night.

I had one of these outragously expensive ceramic GXP BB's, almost €200 on Wiggle, that had siezed up a few months ago after a rainy cycle. I checked out how to remove the seals from the bearing cartridge and I applied a heavy duty degreaser to it. After about an hours soak I was able to get a bit of movement from the bearing I resoaked and kept twiddleing and eventually got it freed up. Rinsed it dried it and then re greased with TF2 Li grease, apparently special ceramic grease not really required and re fitted BB to the bike. Smooth as butter, will get out for a spin this weekend to test it out !

Yeah, I would love a new decals and this will be my next step, but for the moment I had to stop the build. The headset bearings are too rough to put them on. Also, some other bits are needed. I am going to order them and build the bike finally. And then ride it

upgraded the 50/34 Compact to an Ultegra 53/39 looks the business, but when its in the 53/25 the rear mech looks a little over stretched, new chain time for me. also might give me an excuse for a new rear cassette
