No playstation or xbox. Driving a 2004 van that i bought damaged (had a budget of £2400 at the time and that van was the freshest one for the money).

Why would you "trust" a brand over another one.

Deodorant, shower gel/shampoo - you can call it all the "ice, storm, dynamic, arctic or extreme" all you like. Whatever is on special in tesco or dunnes is what is thrown into the trolley.

TV to be bought - look up argos and see which one is reduced the most and is on budget - samsung, sony, lg, or sharp - i don't care, they all do the same job.

If you have a favourite ketchup then surely it's because of the taste and not the brand?
Ok, then surely there's no difference between a Micra and an M3 then, seeing as how they do the same job.

Nokia, nearly lost my trust after the nGage but I stuck with them.
Why? Nokia is the walking dead. Ugly phones with a terrible OS. They should've used Android, then they could've had a better chance of gaining relevancy again.

Bosch. For power tools, kitchen appliances and wiper blades. They are probably the only brand I've any major preference towards for reliability/functionality reasons. Every power tool (and wiper blade...) I've bought that hasn't been Bosch has given me serious heartache or just hasn't been worth the price. They didn't make a free-standing dual fuel cooker or otherwise every kitchen appliance I've bought would have been Bosch too.

Only Bosch blue, the green stuff is hobbyist rubbish.

Like Black and Decker black professional, indestructable - good as it got, I have some of their stuff that is 20 years old and still works every day. The red stuff is for the diyers. Hard to believe the two types come from the one company. Or why they changed.

You need to watch less adds and more garages. Dross, but well advertised dross.

In fairness though P.. Mr NF, VW is a company that seems to have good relations with its workers in Germany so in that sense it's a good brand.

If it's trusting the brand vw aren't very trustworthy imo just look into their history.....

Are you talking about the Nazis? Did you lose someone to the Nazis? FGS let it go will ya? I'm talking about VW as an ethical company. No, their cars aren't as reliable as other but as companies go they seem to consider their workers well-being which is a good thing.

Nokia, because I do a lot of work outside and I have given some of their phones absolute dogs abuse.

Sennheiser for the reason cited above - outstanding value, great quality for the money paid, and even their low end headphones are usually both cheaper and better than even some of the generics. I can't praise them enough, I don't think a Sennheiser product has ever let me down.

That sounds broken to me. You should look for a refund.

Hoovers: I break hoovers, a lot, so: Numatic - they make the Henry hoovers.

A little bit above the odds pricewise, but incredibly tough, designed by engineers and not accountants, made in the western world, and every single replacement part can be ordered so you don't have to bin it in case you muller anything.

Cars: I'm handy with the spanners, so: FIAT. Ignored by most and/or disregarded as unreliable sh!te. Cheap fun motoring at its zenith, and even if it does go wrong which is usually due to abuse, cheap and easy to fix, unlike the German cars that we as a country love.

My sparkling retail career has left me with a quite irrational hatred of Henry bloody Hoover that I will never, ever be able to overcome. I see his little smiling face looking up at me and I just wish he had a neck I could wrap my hands around.

But they are quite sturdy, I've tested.

Nostalgia mostly but the older phones were brilliant! Put it through a washing machine, no problem! Bounce it off the wall, no problem! :)

We took our 2 year old (two months past warranty) Fiat Punto on our road trip through France and Spain a month ago.

Halfway through France the engine light came on. Not too worrisome since the goddamn engine light comes on about every couple of months for no real reason and just needs a trip to garage to get sorted, but this time the turbo went out with it.

We called AA. Took it to a Fiat garage. They couldn't find the problem, and the turbo began working again. Get the engine light sorted when you get home. No bother. Pay garage fee. Pushed on.

Turbo goes out again in the south of France. Again, Fiat garage. Can't detect or replicate the problem. Paid fee. Pushed on.

Turbo goes out just over the border in Spain. Took it to a Fiat garage. This time, they can detect the problem, but they have no idea what is causing it. They offer to replace the turbo in three days, at 1600 euro for the part alone. F*ck that. Paid garage fee, pushed on.

We figured out that we could 'reset' the turbo by getting the car up to speed then turning the engine off and on again.

Our holiday was totally ruined by this point, we were out of cash due to all the garage fees and having to get hotels near the garages when we were supposed to be camping and our schedule was shot to sh*t so we just went home.

Dropped the car at the garage "oh, that's a known problem with these, the turbo has a design flaw and you need an entirely new one".

No abuse, an actual known fault that apparently wasn't passed on to any of the Fiat garages in France or Spain, and not cheap or easy to fix at all.

Thankfully they covered 60% of the cost of the new turbo because we're selling it and never, ever buying Fiat again.

I miss my old Honda Accord, now there was a reliable car! I once got hit by a guy speeding in an old Peugot 106. The front of his car disintegrated all over the road. He bent my wheel arch.

I currently own a Sony hifi that's 16 years old (was originally my brother's for around 10 of those) - it's been used for probably 99% of those 16 years, it still works perfectly and can absolutely rattle the foundations of the house if I turn it up loud enough.

I also had a set of Sony headphones (cheap, supra aural set that sounded great for the money, €29.99 at the time) that had seen me the whole way through college and a bit beyond/ They got used 5 days a week for about 5 years, worn in rain, hail, snow and shine, got thrown around in a backpack with books, and only broke when I somehow managed to stabd on them and destroy one of the driver units. Would have got more regular wear and tear out of them if I didn't do that!

    As a kid, Tomy.

Tomy made the best, almost indestructible toys imo.

    Tomy tutor, home computer.
    Tomy, my first train set
    My first computer
    Robot
    Radio controlled car, etc etc.

If it had the name Tomy stamped on it, he was gonna be good, and it was gonna last.

As an adult, I'm going to go with Andrex. I've a delicate bum.

    Soft, strong, and very long.

Sony. Had a trinitron for years, upgraded to a widescreen sony ten years ago and gave the old one away. It's still going. The widescreen died alright, but that was my fault. Got a panasonic plasma now and they seem to have a great rep.

Honda. Dunno what the latest ones are like, but the older ones are bloody well bombproof. My last one had 220,000 kms on the clock and other than the odd bulb it only required a radiator in all that time. Sold it on and it put up another 40,000 in their hands with no trouble except for a dead 50 quid relay(then it got nicked by scumbags). My current one has 150,000+ Kms on it and again pretty much nothing has gone wrong.

Apple pc's used to be a lot more solid and you could see the quality(and the price) not so sure about now. In the windows world IBM stuff while not cutting edge is pretty solid IME.

Philips are another brand I'd trust more than most. I've a Philips spin dryer bought back in 1977(not a typo), still going strong.

Rolex. I personally don't like the look of them and they do have connotations, but they last and last and last. An uncle of mine got his back in the early 60's, His wife bought it as an anniversary present. Go Auntie!. :) I asked him had he ever had it serviced and he looked at me blankly. Nope. 50 years of daily wear and hard wear at that, been all over the world in all sorts of conditions and it has never once missed a beat and still keeps accurate time.

Many worry about Artificial Intelligence. I worry far more about Organic Idiocy.
