The thing about Sakho is that if he was brought in to play at RCB, then we cannot put off playing him in the role. He had no pre season with us thanks to being bought so late, and the longer we put off playing him there, the longer it takes him to adjust to his new teammates/new position.

Him at the centre of a back three makes a lot of sense though. He is a vocal organiser, he is one that will lead a back line during a tough game, and his strength, tackling and aerial ability make him the obvious choice to be the middle CB.

Another factor, if we went with three CBs, is that we might not use Henderson's chasing around style of play if we have an extra defender at the back. We could have Gerrard and Lucas as the CMs sitting in front of the three CBs and we could have Coutinho in the AM role ahead of them with Sturridge and Aspas ahead of him, or we could have the same CM pairing but with Coutinho, Sturridge and one of Moses or Aspas as our front three.

Then when Suarez comes back he just takes the slot held by Aspas/Moses.

Spot on. The sooner we get Sakho on the pitch and integrated into the team the better. In at the deep end I say!!

I can remember lots of long range left footed passes from Ruddock that found the target, long raking cross field passes, but I can also remember a lot of misplaced short passes from him as well.

Just remember the good times Kess :D

I loved that team around then, on their day they were the best in the league, on an off day they were truly awful. :( I don't think I'll ever forget that Sunday afternoon when word came thru they'd let a goal lead slip against a Coventry team in the relegation zone, twas the beginning of the end of the Title dreams!

Have a sneaking suspicion that if Toure is fully fit, that we might see a system incorporating three centre backs with wing backs providing the main width. The question for me would be (assuming we going with that sort of set up at the back) whether we go with a 2-3 (two CMs, two wide/inverted attackers, and a Striker) and or a 3-2 ( Two CMs, an AM, and two forwards) for our midfield and attacking options.

I suggested this after we heard that Johnson was likely to be out for a while, and it didn't go down well, partly because I said Hendo should play RWB. But who else would play that, as much an attacker as a defender, maybe moreso? It suits Enrique, but not Wisdom. Henderson has the engine, the defensive positioning (Toure would be the true RCB when we are defending), and gives us that running from deep when Aspas tucks inside.

This would allow Coutinho to play central with Stevie, 2 up top, preparing the way for Luis to come in...

I'd be surprised if Rodgers changed from 4 at the back after no goals conceded in 3 league games.

The picture lies. He's 6'1" according to the official site. Here he is alongside Jack Butland, who is 6'5" -

Apparently he kicked a player already on the ground and punched someone else on the shoulder after being sent off

I think Wisdom or a fit Kelly could play the RWB role quite easily. Both have good pace and both are decent/good at defending on the right flank. Would probably mean that Enrique would be the wing back going forward the most, leaving us with the ability to switch to a flat back four if Enrique was badly caught out of position during an attack.

As for Henderson at RWB. Maybe. Two of his best games for me came when he was used at RB. Remember posting about it on here during his first season after one of those games. He has all the physical tools to be able to work in that role, and if he could get past his habit of following the ball rather than watching the run, then maybe he could be an effective handy short term option for the role or a decent alternative to the likes of Kelly and Wisdom who are far more experienced in the right sided defensive role.

I wouldnt either for the moment, ive no doubt sahko will be a 1st team player for us but not quite straight away. 3 at the back will be a real option these days which is interesting.

I have every faith in Wisdom becoming that player we all wish for.
He seems to be a no nonsense type guy who will learn from his mistakes, he just needs to make his mistakes with another team when on loan, and without being in the LFC spotlight.

loan move will be very important to his development but we just cant let him out on one this side of Christmas.

For all we know Wisdom could grow another inch. The lad has only just turned 20.

You know we have fuck all to worry about when people are posting squad photos and adjudging height :pac:

I wouldn't be comfortable with Wisdom as a wing back. A wing back should have a decent cross, or the drive to attack the LB, and to finish. I don't think Wisdom has those attacking attributes, he's more likely to look to pass inside and play it safe. So until Kelly is fit, I think Hendo is the best fit.

Having said all that, I think we'd keep the same team as United with the exception of Toure at RB (almost a back 3 when in attack), and Skrtel staying in the side...

If Lucas did not play it would have to be because he was injured or we had a better player to play in his place. Allen and Henderson are not better players than Lucas (especially for the role Lucas performs for the team), so Lucas would start over those two every time for me.

I just think with 3 at the back and Lucas it would be very defensive.
It would almost be like playing with 4 CB's !!

But take Lucas out and would you be as confident of an Allen/Gerrard or a Gerrard/Henderson combo avoiding leaving large gaps/channels for players to run into?

But another function of a wing back is the ability to defend and I would have more confidence in Wisdom or Kelly being able to do that than I would in Henderson.

I guess it boils down to whether you want your defenders to be better at attacking than they are at defending or better at defending than they are at attacking.

In a wingback system, I think there is room for having one wing back being less attacking than the other as long as the less offensive one comes with good pace and the ability to win the ball and lay it off to a more offensive/creative player.

I also think it makes sense as it means the left sided centre back can automatically slip into the LB slot when the LWB is in the other team's half and the entire back line can move over one space to keep a back four in place when the other team hits on the counter. The RWB in this case would still get into advanced positions just maybe not as advanced as the LWB, and he (Kelly or Wisdom) may not need to once Suarez is back as Suarez as a RWF would roam and leave the kind of space on our right flank that might see a very attacking RWB get caught out of position.

Am just spitballing of course as Rodgers might prefer to stick with a flat back four, and our CB slots may remain as a duo consisting of two from Toure/Skrtel/Sakho/Agger.

I would of thought with 3 CB's one of them will play in a slightly more advanced role and allowed a bit more freedom, basically doing what Lucas does now and prob offer a bit more going forward.

I don't think we are in a position to drop Lucas, but with playing 3 at the back I think it's a possibility / option for some games.

One thing with our current squad...options!!

Any latest news on Toure's injury? And wtf happened Wisdom in the U21 match, sounds fairly out of character.

Some highlights of that game, including the sending off. Have a look at Butland's positioning for the first goal.

Look carefully and you can see the exact moment where the Finnish player called Wisdom a shortarse. :d

Konoplyanka's agent has said one English club offered £10M (€12M) for Kono but Dnipro refused to sell as they want closer to £17M (€20M), also reckons whoever the club is will be back in for him in January. Gotta wonder if that English club is Liverpool.

Some "gamble" by Butland, there :/ Silly stuff from Wisdom; it seemed like tempers were high in the game.

You have mentioned him a few times in the past alright.

Was just looking at his stats, and noticed he only played 14 league games last season. Was he injured or are the online stats just not updated?

Loads of people thought Suarez was a goner, and he very nearly was. Can the whole Lloyd bogey man thing not be dropped, it's sooooo 11/12 season loike.

No I haven't ever called him out as a bogey man or anything before. I always read his opinions. Think he is a great poster, regardless of whether I agree with his views or not, however back in April or May during a conversation with him about Suarez he stated to me as fact that Suarez would be gone come sept 2nd and given the conversation there was nothing I could say except we'll see. Well now we have seen, he stayed juts like I said he would at the time. Hope the doom and gloomers on here can chillax a little this season. I don't expect it but wouldn't it be nice.
