Whenever I feel sad or down or whatever, Let Down is the 1st song I go to, it's absolutely brilliant, great for all that angsty stuff :P

At the moment though, oddly enough, I'm completely addicted to Everything In Its Right Place, I dunno what it is about it but I just keep listening!

    An....an underrated Coldplay? Coldplay?!! :O I....I don't even...

Sorry, I really HATE Coldplay :P

Also I feel my music discussion would be lacking somewhat as my input is generally OMFG I LOVE DIS. I don't know why I love it, I just know that I do!

I always go to Blink 182 when I'm sad for some reason. If I'm having a hard time coming up to exams or project deadlines, listening to Take Off Your Pants and Jacket from start to finish really cheers me up.

Back when I was in my angst-iest of angst-iest-ness (some say I'm still there... :P) I used love just blaring this track and screaming the chorus:

My contributions to the music discussion will also be somewhat mental, given I also tend miss out on what a song is actually about, latch on to some lyrics in it, and ascribe some meaning to it to relate to my life... :o

Anyone listen to Arcane Roots? This is the first time I've ever heard them, but they seem kinda fun!

Otherwise, I think tonight will be a major Beach House night...

God damn, was there ever a lyric as true as "All I wanted was to be a happy man". Well besides the obvious "My milkshakes bring all the boys to the yard".

Sparklehorse are a strange one, just discovered them, not sure what I think yet but just discovered this and it blew me away. Them lyrics.

So I discovered two songs yesterday.

The first is a song that's, let me put this as politely as possible, "80's as ****!". It's a very Stevie Nicks-ish song:

The second is the song that was used in the GTAV Official Trailer* and it just fits so perfectly, I love these type of songs so much.

    *Side Note: GTAV ARRWOFGNWDVB;DSVMDLXVBNSDLGFEHGVLD VBLD;JVSAF GLSDF SFSFGSDKLJVNEDFGHJEWRL;GVHDEV;S!!!!!!!!!!!!111!!!!1!!

Ashamed to say I only discovered this local band this weekend, they are absolutely unreal. This is such a great tune and the video is fantastic.

And in other news, Biffy Clyro are playing Arthur's Day...

    What I wouldn't give to see them in Nancy's or Dolan's... :\

What's really irritating about it is that they don't announce where they're playing until the night (I think you rock up to a place and only discover who's playing when they show up) so you could buy a ticket to your local venue only to end up with someone like Kodaline or The Script... :\

Don't get me wrong btw, I like The Script and Kodaline, I just wouldn't want to see them live...

Oh, and Biffy's Reading set is up on YouTube now:

    So f*cking good.

i wouldn't mind seeing any of the other acts but they play in ireland all the time and i'd be a bit dissapointed knowing they were playing and missing the oppourtunity :( most of their music is under rated

Janelle Monae is doing Arthur's Day too! Her new album is streaming, can't wait to check it out.

I really wish that Road Safety ad hadn't ruined this song:

Also, this has been stuck in my head for days and I don't know why. I haven't listened to it in months.

The cover by Johnny Cash & Bob Dylan is good too, as is Paul McCartney's.

Was that the Road Safety ad where they were walking down opposite sides of the street and texting each other?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 713 ✭✭✭Cherry Blossom Girl

    Yep, if I remember correctly.

    NEW CHROMEO MUSIC!!!

I'm a little late to the party since I only realised their epicness this summer but I can't even express how excited I am for this album. This has honestly made my day.

Any other Chromeo fans here? They're playing a DJ set at boilerroom.tv from 12.00am - 4.00am tonight/this morning for any insomniacs/fans/both. I'm strongly considering staying up for at least some of it.

    Mostly I just love Chromeo.

    /gushing.

ps. that music discussion thread that someone suggested would actually work quite well I think, especially for new album launches and stuff.

I preordered that new Arcade Fire album! I usually don't buy much new music anymore but oh my god this got me a little giddy:

A double album of disco infused goodness with James Murphy and David Bowie collaborations? My ****ing god!

Rumour that there COULD be a livestream of the AF secret show in Montreal tonight for any non-Chromeo loving insomniacs

    Does not compute :p

On the subject of Arcade Fire, I like them but I never really got in to listening to them properly. Could you (or any other AF fans) perhaps recommend me some songs or an album to start with? I know the major ones like Rebellion and Intervention etc., but maybe a few lesser known good'uns? 'Preciate it!

I'm not a huge AF fan (in that I really like their music but I don't really follow what they're up to) but they're hands down one of the best bands I've seen live. Saw them headlining EP in '11, it was epic beyond belief. Felt like the entire 30,000 people were crammed into the main stage area. :P

I love The Suburbs and Neon Bible. Not really a fan of Funeral (only song I really like on it is Wake Up). So I'd say start with The Suburbs. (AF superfans can commence pissing all over this opinion in 3... 2... 1... )

And this is my absolute favourite of their songs:

Oh, and here's a sh1tty YouTube video of Wake Up at EP which, shockingly, fails to capture it completely and emphasises why anyone who spends an entire gig recording it is an idiot.

    *piss*
Funeral fanboy here. While The Suburbs is a WONDERFUL album, introducing someone to AF with that album mightn't be the best first step. Funeral is a bit shorter and has a lot of the band's strongest moments and almost the whole album tends to get played live. Rebellion, the first three songs in the Neighbourhood series, Haiti, Crown of Love... I'm sorry but the album could hold its own if Wake Up never existed.
The Suburbs on the other hand is a bit more sprawling (heh) and a lot of time and close effort needs to be paid to get the most out of it. Now, it has 16 tracks and most of them are perfect... I'd recommend the deluxe edition, with the remixed versions of Sprawl II and Ready to Start (Wnolan's Sprawl video is actually that remix - "Remix by Arcade Fire & Damian Taylor") and Wasted Hours.
Neon Bible is the album with the definite strongest singles but least consistency overall. I wouldn't start there but damn, No Cars Go is essential.

Overall they're one of the most consistently great bands on record and have a larger than life reputation on stage.
