I can't see Rodgers changing his system to accomodate players at all. I can't see us changing a system which has provided great results this calendar year, the players are becoming comfortable with the shape of the team on the whole, we haven't conceded in 3. No need for it and i don't think it'll happen.

Swansea away is a tough call, no shortage of motivation or ability on their part, if we scopre early we all no how the 2nd half will pan out, retreat and fend off the siege. Hope not, we need to grow in confidence enough to keep our foot on the gas and kill off teams when we are top.

The system used depends on the players that are available.

It wouldn't be a big change anyway, we pretty much play with 3 at the back with Lucas :D

I think it's more likely that the manager buys players to fit the system he is using, unless he feels that he needed more in to be able to play three at the back, but I couldn't tell you why. We aren't conceding, we are not really prolific at the moment in front of goal so there really is no need to be more conservative. Lucas doesnt play so deep, I mean sure he sits in front of the defenders but he is much more mobile than that.

Cant see why we would do it, someone will be dropped and will have to play there way back in, thats what we need in our CBs, absolute focus and concentration or knowing that they will be dropped as a quality player is chomping at the bit to get in.

Was just reading there we made a late move for wesley sneijder but he didn't fancy us. So important we get back into cl to start attracting the quality signing we missed this window. Exciting to have a manager going for the likes of Costa, willian, sadko etc. Can only imagine if BR got the signings he wanted this window..

Or the signings we might get/he'd go for if we got back in to CL :)

Or maybe buy players which allow him to use his preferred system.

    Why buy so many CB's?

We now have Agger, Skrtel, Sakho, Toure, Ilori. 3 of which would be on big bucks. We know what the owners are like when it comes to big earners on the bench. Obviously Skrtel could still be sold.

I am nearly positive I have heard Rodgers say his preferred formation is 3 at the back.

Funny how not so long ago people wanted Rodgers gone, now they want to give him a new contract!

And after we lose a game or two, they will want him gone again.

Rodgers contract should be discussed next summer, not before IMO.

Yeah, SOME people are just like that, you're gonna get that on Football forums. And everywhere.

He shouldn't be sacked as he is building a team as is doing ok so far.

He shouldn't be given a new contract as he hasn't achieved anything yet.

At the end of the season it'll all be up for discussion.

United will have the CL to contend with as well the week before and after the LC match, it's a match we should put out a pretty strong team in to get a result. It's a competition that can creep up on you, nobody wants to lose to lower league opposition, then United and if we get through that's the last 16 and it becomes a real target, no harm in that with no European football.

Midfield is the one area I'm worried about injury wise now, we just don't have the cover there, used to be the back 4!

As for the run of results, I'm as guilty as anybody of looking ahead but I'm not doing it again, the Villa and Southampton results last season were because of a certain complacency among the squad. Away form has picked up to an extent that I expect a result in every game, just get the home form sorted and things will look after themselves.

Thought Moses would have taken No.11 now that Assaidi is out on loan, or is that not possible because the latter is still on our books?

Quite right, I have been a backer of Rodgers from the start under the proviso that his first year didn't matter and he was allowed build, and his 2nd year he showed progress , and his third year we are back in contention fully.

So far so good on that front, looking at the team now vs the team he started with , I prefer the squad and mentality now. I do feel that if we keep this mentality and Suarez comes back with a vengeance then we will be in for some mighty games ahead.

We gave Aquilani's number to Meireles when he was on loan I think.

Should have been possible. Perhaps Moses wanted another number.

Theres definitely been a shift in the way we are playing between this and last season. I criticised Rogers last season as I didnt see us being at all solid defensively. We were just as liable to concede a goal as score one. We seem to be taking a more cautious approach now when we score, and its worked very well thus far...

    Read this too.

Alderweireld: "Liverpool, for example, appeared in the last few days. The truth is that Atlético made a huge effort to convince me."

    Speaking of which

Warning its a terrible web site that might crash your browser but it says Schalke were braced for a late bid by Liverpool and that the player was not minded to move (and that Zenit were also interested) this summer.

Liverpool clearly had what any competent club should have - a list, judging by the chatter it was A Papa with Toby, Ilori and Sakho as alternatives. Was the plan to always buy two? Probably yet we read that Skrtel was never on the exit list, while Agger was clear in his mind as was the club about him staying.

I wonder how much truth is in the rumour that Rodgers was recently approached about the City job, but declined the opportunity.

Poisoned chalice , taking one of these jobs is only for the payout really. Don't think that's Rodgers thing, he strikes me as a builder.

True but I would love to know if true or complete bollox cause if true it would show Rodgers is highly rated amongst his peers and those advising City.

Hard to know, Rodgers said himself he wanted to loan Wisdom, I'd assume Coates would be the same, except for the injury. Ilori would seem to be the likely replacement for him. Wilson was sold as well so that's two along with Coates that needed covered.

The bigger picture is European football and having squad numbers to deal with it.

I know we are on a wave of positivity at the moment, but I think Rodgers is doing a great job so far. He has got rid of all the players I wanted rid of including Cole, Carroll, Downing etc, has realised the potential of Henderson and has strengthened the defence which I have been calling for for years.

We were lucky last year that Carragher had a bit of an Indian summer last season, and I'm sure skertl would have come good but it was clear Jamie was on his way out and we had literally zero cover. Now we have a huge range of options at the back.

It is clear at this stage that Rodgers is a very clever man, as clever as Rafa but maybe even more strings to his bow .

He realises the players he wants aren't coming and he has limited funds so he is making us resilient and hard to bloody beat with a view to qualifying for CL which will in turn bring money and players.

Rafa, I believe wanted us to play a more beautiful brand of football too but realised we just didn't have the personnel and so had to adapt. I don't think Rodgers will be as negative as that though.

I know last season, want great for us achievement wise but it was the most enjoyable I remember for a long time. That's why I was surprised Suarez wanted to leave. Surely he can't enjoy his football as much anywhere else?

    Streaming consciousness ends...

Any dropped points will be disappointing, but as has been said, winning all 5 is very unlikely, as slip ups tend to happen even to reliable teams (which we have still yet to prove we are).

Looking at those fixtures, obviously you are always disappointed not to win at home so I would say the Soton and Palace games we should defeinitely be expecting 3 points.

I would add the Sunderland game to that - they seem to be poor this season and had a pretty poor end to last season.

A win and a loss in the other two, or two draws to keep us unbeaten would be a successful return.

Par = 10 Points imo, and I'd probably deal on 11 or 12 if you offered it to me now

When was the last time Liverpool won 5 games in a row? I think it's very ambitious to say we should win all these and as someone (Rarnes?) said earlier we did this last year and just fell flat. Not too many teams win 5 matches in a row in this league.
If we got 10 points about of these and had 19 points out of 24 I would be delighted with that to be honest as I think most teams would be.
