Things you did as a teenager that you thought made you cool?

In my circle of friends not sleeping until extremely late seemed to be the cool thing. I'd stay up as long as I could and then text my friends saying "Anyone awake?" And then pass out from exhaustion. I don't know why but it was the unspoken thing we always did.

The tables turned when I was 17 and had a bad reaction to general anaesthetic which left me with insomnia. Now all I want to do is sleep!

So what did you all do that was perceived as cool?

Put Brylcreem in my hair,bought hideous clothing and footwear.

Not listen or put any effort into school,or even bother going there.

I was a goth. Leather corsets and PVC trousers, even the memory makes me want to hide behind a cushion:/

Wearing random clothing , buying booze while underage, smoking anything and everything , bunking school and going home for shots , buying the biggest speakers especially subwoofers, getting the noise police over, having house parties filled with mostly people you'd no idea about

Brylcream here as well. Wrote on my jeans with black marker, bleach my rucksack to dye it. Leather jacket for a few years as well (my brother did it before me).

The how late have you stay up one used to make me laugh. When I was 18 I often worked split shift in a restaurant. Started 11am on a weekend morning and finished at 3-am. Then waited a few hours for a taxi. (before deregulation) then went home. Employer payed for the taxi. Seemed completely irrelevant how late I would stay up.

I used to wear an extremely naff denim jacket that I thought was the coolest thing since Fonzie. It wasn't, mind you. I still wear extremely naff jackets (or so I'm told) but I no longer give a rattlin' furk whether they're cool or not.

Had one of those hemp cloth bags which you would gradually write on throughout the year.

Smoking. Drinking. Hanging out behind the bike sheds at lunch or when skipping class.

Dressed like a goth. All about the PVC, corsets, New Rocks and so on.

That said, dressing like that suited me, everyone said it.

I still like all of the clothing and stuff now, but I wouldn't wear it because I'm not 17 anymore. Still have a few bits that I'll wear if I'm going to a metal/rock club, but I dress quite 'normally,' with a few small alternative bits nowadays.

When I was about 10 I used to pretend nipple cripples didn't hurt me even though they were still sore. I'd let people twist them and just be chillin, smiling at them......then I felt hard lumps after a while under my nipples so I stopped.
