My daughter got her hair ironed

So, my daughter started school today.

She went to a private pre-school, but given the economy and lack of funds, we had to send her to a "normal" school....

She has naturally curly hair, and when she went in today she was held down and the other children got iron and ironed her hair!

No idea what to do about this.

The school have asked me to straighten her hair every morning so this doesn't happen again.

While I don't have an issue with the premise..I, at the moment, don't have the money to buy GHDs.

What do I do? I'm at the end of my tether here!

I hope you are coping okay with having to send her to a "normal" school. Must be very embarrassing.

Why did you even mention that? Unless.... hahahahaha

Er, normal schools can't afford irons.

I mentioned it because she was in a private pre-school with her friends, and is now in school away from her friends.

There was no hair ironing in the pre-school she went to.

Normal schools have always only allowed straight hair. What planet have you been living on thinking you could send her in with her curls ?:confused::confused:

Shave her head, if done right, think Sinéad O'Connor she could be sexier for it.

Really?!!! Where did they get an iron?!!! This sounds reeeeally unlikely and Im finding it hard to believe BUT if you are serious I would say move her to a new school. This is NOT normal and I would strongly advise you dont straighten her hair.If you do you are sending her the message the bullies are right and her hair is better straight!!! Stand up for her!

We do obviously, but I don't think I should have to do that everyday....

    What age is your daughter?
Are you sure your school asked you to straighten your daughter's hair? That doesn't seem like the correct solution to this problem.
I would ask them about their bullying policy and code of behaviour . Irons would not be suitable for school and not to mention dangerous so why are they not bing punished and what are the teachers doing to supervise the children ?
I'd be sorting out some of these issues before I'd be worrying about her hair.
(Until this is resolved, maybe make sure her hair is tied up, even in a bun so they can't get near it)
Did she ask them to iron it or was it against her will??

This is one of the most bizarre incidents if bullying I've ever read.

Why would the school even possess an iron, key alone allow 4 year olds access it, let alone condone forced ironing of a child, let alone tell you to iron it in future.

    Story does not add up

Why not shave her head op? Saves you buying a Ghd and you get 10 minutes extra in bed everyday... Win win as far as I can see

Only realised the op(troll?) is talking about primary school. It really doesn't sound plausible at all!!! If it is , I apologise. Where, when n how would they get near an iron , let along get to use one!!!

It's a well known fact that curls jumble up the knowledge as it heads to the brain. It's all that twisting as it goes up. That's why straight hair is recommended. It's like the knowledge express, innit. And knowledge helps keep a school higher up the results table.

Get on to Social Welfare and tell them you need GHD's to prepare her for First Holy Communion. They will give you the money.

I've never been more ashamed of my inability to use an iron...

    What does this mean?

Are you trying to say this is my fault?

My and my husband's hair is naturally straight. I don't know where our little Curly Sue came from.

How out of touch are you people. All schools have them these days. Anyone who turns up with creases in their shirt has to get it sorted the same way.
