that is/was Ben Lichtenbergs daily hack, fastidiously maintained, and the 7 seat model. It may have a couple of battle scars, but nothing you couldn't live with

Far as I know the GT was on the newer horrible model.
    That shape 1.8 was 115hp.

No there was always a GT. Infact the pop up headlamp 323 GT was a rocket.

    Sorry lads but....

Nearly 20 years old 2.0 petrol E200 estate with 177,000 miles for €1500??
It doesn't even have electric windows.

There are much nicer cars out there for 3 monkeys.

With proper care probably will be able to do double that milage. For a 1K why not.

Asking €1500 - and I would much rather something 10 years newer.

Edit - was in reply to teh Merc - not the Saab

No need to be sorry. Different strokes for different folks and all that..
I would assume there is movement in the price and if its well looked after there is another 100k in that car..
As has been said here before bangernomics is relative to the buyers requirements and preferences.

Funny, but I saw that online a couple of days ago and thought that it has a real German spec i.e absolutley nothing, then it turns out it's owned by a German, therefore well maintained (Bosch battery is a good sign for a start) and as yoshiktk says it's barely run in at that mileage.

There are newer, and better specced cars for that money, but I'd wager they'll be made into beer cans several times over and that Merc will still be pottering around the place. One of the last truly great Merc models built before Mercedes let the accountants have a say in matters.

Bosch batteries are readily available at most factors and halfords though, and is not indicative of how a car was maintained.

Thats my point. People tend to look at car only thru price tag or milage. Of course its twenty years old but it was built in times when cars did few hundreds thousands miles before thinking about getting a new one. Off course You can buy a punto which gonna cost You around 1k but in next few years You more likely will have to spend the same amount or maybe even greater on reapers. The realilty in Ireland is cruel, a lot of cars isnt properly serviced so getting a car just only cause its cheap and have low miles is getting a bomb with a timer.
As a example, my taxi friend have some old Mercedesfrom 80's. Bought it from first owner with 300,000 km on clock, now its more than 1milion. Of course the cost of maintance werent to low, but as far i know it didint had any major faults besides the suspension. Now imagine to do the same amount of km in car from 2000 or 2013, newer gonna happen.

I'm not doubting that the car will keep driving. But, you can keep driving it and I'll take something else thanks. It still doesnt take away from the fact that it is 20 years old and its got big miles.
BTW, you can buy a lot more cars than a punto for the same money.
Anyway, delighted your taxi friend hit the million km. Did merc give him a free car? :P

you are correct of course, but i happen to know the car in the ad, and the owner, who is a highly regarded and respected in MB classic circles. You can rest assured that particular car has been maintained to the nth degree.
As also stated, it mightn't be for most folk, but for those who do, it's a good 'un

Unfortunate no.... But thanks to saved money, which he didnt need to spend for a new car every 5 years, he bought a decent house :P
If we talk about Mercs sometimes they do something good.

I wasn't criticizing the owner or the car. From reading your post above Im sure it's a well looked after car. My point about the battery was just in general circumstances. :)

WHAT! A million on the clock.

I'd say there have been hundreds, maybe even thousands of W124 diesel cars with over a million km on them...

Not really that unusual, maybe here but in other parts of the works they love their high milers.

They were build in good old times. I dont remember exactly which merc model, but in 80's merc took the engine from warranty cause they were so sure if it.
I cant imagine doing 1 milion km now.
