If I was staying in the hotel for the night, I'd have drink in the room. If it's local I just buy at the bar.

In fairness though, how many weddings a year would you generally go to (2-3 max)? -maybe more if you're in the late 20s/early 30s brackets when lots of mates are getting married. Surely, it's so occasional an outing that most can tolerate with paying bar prices for the one night that's in it? If it really is down to being absolutely unable to afford it, then I think I'd pass on attending the wedding altogether or just limit my drink.

I can understand bringing own drink on a regular night out or having a few drinks from the offy in your hotel room but sneaking drinks under the table in the main reception area where there's also a chance you know or are related to many other guests who might spot you - just comes across really cheap. It would look a bit morto if the bride or groom spotted you too (unless they do that sort of thing themselves:)).

Also in weddings, at least the ones I attend, there's a tendency to buy rounds for the mini group or table you might be hanging out with, old friends or relatives you haven't seen in ages. Do you really want to be seen sneaking swigs of your can or naggin under the table while they company you're in are in rounds?

I always wrap a box of Miller in wedding wrapping paper and leave it at my table. If people see it, they just assume it's a gift, but little do they know it was my drink for the night in it ;)

The markup on alcohol is insane....I feel no guilt in buying something at 1/10th to 1/100th the cost and consuming that which I legally own.
