The minors winning will take a little bit of pressure off. It will mean an extra couple of thousand Mayo supporters inside Croker which we will need.

    Oh dear God no...

Although in fairness most of Michael's performances were better than Deegan's on Sunday.

I would have Coldrick and McQuillan fairly on par as the best refs at the minute, but as you rightly say, that isn't saying much...

Would be an awkward kind of a day for the Minors if they were to win, and the Seniors to lose :P

Ah but imagine if both were to win, they'll age ten years in the following week!

On the face of it, it seems to be a bizarre method of distributing tickets alright but ultimately, if you're an active member of a GAA club you should have easier access to getting tickets for finals.

Hard to argue with it really and makes it hard for the bandwagon jumpers to get tickets easily. I will admit to being a bandwagon jumper in recent years - I was at nearly every Mayo championship match between about 1985 and September 1996 (yep...the Colm Coyle flukey point broke my spirit) but have been a much less frequent matchgoer in the years since.

Anyway, would love to get my Dad up to the match next month, he was 2 yrs old when Mayo last won the All-Ireland  so hopefully one of my tenuous Munster GAA contacts comes through for me

Head out to the Kilmacud Sevens the Saturday before always a few tickets floating around there.

The decision will be decided on the back of the specialists opinion. We could talk about this all day but the fact is none of us know the ins and outs and the possible risks involved.
FWIW I wouldn't be too hopeful of him making it back for a place on the bench but we just don't know. Whatever happens I'm sure the right decision on this will be made and as a poster said above there should be no pressure on him, he's given plenty for the cause this season.

I've had to rehab people from similar injuries. Nevermind a situation where a shoulder has been dislocated three times in less than a year, doing untold damage to surrounding tissue in the process. I know it well enough and I know teams' and players' attitudes to medical advice.

I said it at the time that COC should have been shut down for the year and taken the mandatory surgery immediately. It's a credit to the lad he put in as much time doing rehab (upwards of four hours) and that he lasted as long as be did with his shoulder hanging together with strapping and medical tape but this seemed an inevitable result.

I hope to God both Mayo supporters and management realise they've already risked a Michael Meehan situation by playing him once while injured and see whatever there is to be gained by even engaging in the faintest of shadow boxing about him playing a part next month is not worth it.

I never knew you had a background in this, I'm not going to pretend I know anything about the whole process because I don't. As I said the right decision should will be made.

I can't remember ever getting anything but shafted of Coldrick from a Mayo viewpoint.

McQuillian rode us against Meath in 09 but I think he was quite new to the level at that stage. He was fair enough in the QF this year and the SF last year.

Also looking at it in the last few years Coldrick and Deegan have reffed two each while McQuillian and Marty Duffy have one each.

Here's a question for ye Mayo lads as ye would have seen a lot more of Mayo than most people in the last couple of years. So we have Mayo in the final again this year.

Mayo 2012 v Mayo 2013: Which is the better team? And why?
Had a good think on this before from rewatching last years final and having seen all games and some league this year. Thought they would go far this year as said all year Mayo 2013 beats Mayo 2012 quite comfortable.
    The big changes:
    1. SOS/AOS a huge leap in terms of midfield fitness. Just go back and look at last years final.
    2. Cunniffee in full backline. Vaughan/Boyle/Barret improved immensely.
    3. Carolan(new pacy option)/Feeney/Freeman both improved on 2012
    4. Teamwork. I got best appreciation of this live at a game. When yer trying to stop Mayo (or Dublin) yer trying to stop teamwork moves, alot of which have been pre-planned. The days of the Mayo forwards dawdling on the ball, going into contact when isolated, sending it backwards are greatly reduced.

If I was to boil it down to one overall thing it is the posession platform from 2 - 9 that wins kickouts, wins turnovers and launches quick counterattacks.

I actually think McQuillian is the best around at the moment. Which may not be saying a lot. I thought Deegan gave soft frees on both sides the last day and generally not up to the pace of the game. 40 yards away for the peno and the Freeman disallowed goal.

One of the Duffys would be the other option. Both are very technical refs. Get 99% of the technical calls right but don't let the game flow and often miss serious off the ball goings on.
Please God not the Duffy! :-)

More rumours about COC starting (yes, starting) the AI final.

I'd hope for Mayo's sake it's just a smokescreen because it would show a staggering lack of faith in the other players if a seriously injured COC still makes the cut before them. If the panel is there like we're being told ad nausea why not put your money where your mouth is?

He wouldnt be able to tackle or contest posession No way he can play One decent contact or even tug on his arm and it can go

Stupidity I think if he does take any part, unless its no as bad as first thought, though a dislocated shoulder is min 6 weeks regardless of "how bad it is".

Not sure about that, dislocated both my shoulders and spent a summer playing football while I was waiting for an operation on one. Got to the stage where it would slip out and back in during a game (probably a bit different to COC's as the doctor had to put it back in for him) because the ligaments were gone to pieces. I reckon he will start but as we saw on Sunday there is always the chance it will go after 5 minutes, but then again he got through 2 games before that no problem.

That fan pic is class! Everyone around me has such a serious thick face on them,,, must have been when tyrone were taking their points!

They started taking the picture 10 minutes from the start of the senior match and it took them 10 minutes to take it, so yeah, between the 10th and 20th minute of the match there were a lot of concerned Mayo fans.

Yep, and it was a sell out.
They could probably charge double that and still sell it out........

    Why drop the price?

more concerning than anything else is when is the draw for the 2 tickets is from the fan pic, not that i ever win anything anyway.

Ive watched the sunday game twice now and both times the intro showing tryones glory days and mayos defeats really got me pumped and emotional...... could only imagine what its like if you were actually part of the team. A team on the edge of all Ireland greatness 3 times only to have it clasped away from them each time.

Let's hope this year things end differently and we make history after 62years!

I'd be lying if I said I wasn't confident that we can do it.

The way I see it is, if we lose then what changes? Us supporters are too used to taking these defeats on the chin. We'll be called 'bottlers' and 'chokers' for another year at least - so ****ing what! The journey so far has been superb.

I hope we don't get too nervous before the ball is thrown in. We've a serious chance and if we play to near our full potential then Dublin/Kerry will have a hell of battle on their hands to beat us and I can guarantee you they'll be nervous enough watching the tape of us against Donegal.
