Do a search for 'lidl buzz box' or 'aldi buzz box' for some user-reports. People seem to think they're fine for any rougher jobs, but will erode thin metal, like car bodywork, quickly.

    Not seen them but.

You will be very restricted in rod size. 2.5 and below at the very most, and thats being hopeful .On a very low duty cycle.

No way a 40-80 amp will burn a 3.2 rod correctly so 1" box is really all it can do.

I guess for that money its ok.

Even 2.5 you need at least 90amps and above 2mm and below are OK with this lidl welder

The 160a one is or at least was a bargain. Aldi have had a 160a one every autumn for the last few years, probably the same this year, the one I got around 2009 has powerful cooling fan will burn 2.5mm all day, and 3.2mm with a decent duty cycle. I got it to make a few quick repairs as the father was 200 miles away with the proper one, everyone was pleasantly surprised by it.

Know a couple of people that got the 80a one, impossible to strike an arc with it, the fan is a joke it overheats after about 2 rods you'd really want to be only using 1.6mm rods with it,waste of time and money.
