Watched the Arsenal game and they were quite open at times. Think it might suit us better than Stoke did, though obviously they're quite dangerous with Agbonlahor and Benteke. Would fancy both teams to score, to be honest.

Yeah agree - Villa effective in attack with a lot of pace in Weinmann and the seemingly rejuvenated Abonglahor. Benteke just wins every header too.

Defensively there was space there for Arsenal and Rosicky should have scored at least one goal.

Arsenal still managed to boss the game even with 10 men. I think we'll come out on top in terms of dictating the game.

I imagine there will be chances at both end and it could go either way - very similar to the match at Villa just a few months ago.

So I'll go with the same scoreline - 2-1 Liverpool.

Where did he say it? Who is Jack Sear?

He is the wannabe journo who this morning tweeted that the deal was 80:20 in favour of Spurs getting the player.

I put his tweet up earlier alongside that of another spoofer's tweet from this morning.

Now a few hours later and the deal he was so sure was 80:20 in favour of Spurs does not exist.

No doubt whichever way the transfer eventually pans out, he now has a tweet of his that he can point to as saying he called it in advance. The Ballbag technique I belive it is called.

Just judging by the LFC and Villa games at the weekend, we could be in for trouble with Villas fast breaks, if Agbonlahor/Weimann gets away from Toure/Agger (most likely Agger) theyre gone, no1 is catching them.

Our line is suseptable to being very high, with no pace. Its one of the main concerns i have for the current system, the lack of a pacy CB.

Finding a speedy CB is something that should be considered by Rodgers, as it will cost us on occasion and should only be implemented in games where the opposition rely on such attacks (Villa do and will this season IMO).

However, i presume it is an after thought for most with the prospect of signing Willian. And to be perfectly honest, i cant think of a CB that would fit our style and who has the speed required.

He also made the mistake last week of speaking to some paper/mag that is run/owned by Kelvin MacKenzie, cue horror and a string on Unfollows from LFC fans...

Villas-Boas, when asked whether he had made a bid for Willian, said: "No, no." When asked whether he admired the player, the Tottenham manager said: "Yes. This is a player who I have spoken about in the past, not very long ago. He is a player who I appreciate. He belongs to them and I respect them so I wouldn't like to extend myself too much."

Tiago Ilori is actually quicker than most attackers.

Most of the centre backs we have been linked to this summer would have decent pace and be quicker than our current options.

    Papadopoulos, Sakho, Alderweireld etc.

We are lacking in pace in the centre of defence, but I would argue that we are even more lacking in pace in the centre of midfield with none of our four CM options offering any real pace of note when it comes to combatting a team that likes to break at speed through the centre.

The warning signs were there against Stoke as Stoke made a few very good breaks in the first half, and most of those breaks started on the edge of the Stoke 18 yard box and went through our centre and then onto our right flank. Pieters made two lovely breaks where he left Henderson, Lucas and Johnson in his wake.

Stoke did not have as much joy trying to break down the centre and then going for our left flank, as Agger generally sat deeper than Toure on Saturday and also because of Enrique busting a gut to get back to his LB slot whenever a break looked on.

Villa have a bit more about them than Stoke in terms of having players who can exploit space if given to them, and they certainly will bring a lot more pace against us that Stoke did.

Would also be watching out to see if Lambert tries the same tactic that Hughes tried on our backline. When we had the ball at the back, and were getting ready to play it out, Two Stoke players would press the man on the ball, and when our guy passed it away, then two would press the receiver if the pass was still in our first third of the pitch. Thought it was a smart tactic, especially for Hughes, given we had two new players in our backline and a mistake could be forced with the extra pressing.

Blistering pace for a defender, but nowhere near being ready for a first team berth for a team like us in the EPL imho.

I believe a correction - he was asked whether he could confirm that they had made a bid. So the no could have meant "No bid" or "can't confirm"...

@DannyBarnett77 As someone said 50-50 and I said. 'no, THFC favourites. Maybe 80-20. Must go, Willian on the line..

    MrBoywunder ‏@MrBoywunder 3h
For me Gary Jacob pulled that 80/20 stuff out of his arse. He doesn't know what Willian is thinking.

Everyone on this thread obviously has internet and can therefore go to Twitter.

What's the point in quoting endless tweets here?

Honestly, Twitter is awful. 90% of these people are complete idiotbrains.

Yes but the tweet I put up earlier was one Sears tweeted.

Basically all Sears does is regurgitate whatever he reads elsewhere, and is no more reliable than any of us doing the exact same thing.

As for Gary Jacob, well like most "good" journos he spews out what he thinks will catch the eye and garner the most attention.

From what I can see all of them, be it Jacobs, Bruxton, Barrett or whoever, are clueless to what is going on with Willian, and are just popping off a range of ever changing tweets on the topic.

Because 90% of Twitter stuff is not proper gossip and rumours.

It's just reactionary drivel that can be made up by anyone.

    You're being generous there.

    I'd say it's closer to 99%

For all we know we aren't even trying to get this Willian guy.

People getting a hardon about some nobody that tweets something related to LFC

Maybe if people showed a bit of discretion in what they post up, some of the stuff posted is about as reliable as a goal.com piece. I wouldn't take a quote from here and post it on twitter so I don't see the need to do the reverse, particularly if it's some 17 year old wannabe. It's hard enough to tell what journalists are reasonably reliable without twitter garbage. There must be dozens of posts per minute on twitter about Willian, I don't see why that one is more quotable than most others.

Mad Men's Don Draper : What you call love was invented by guys like me, to sell nylons.

But I thought we are buying Eriksen, its been reported we're signing him so much I assume we are buying him in parts like a Mega Zord.

We've discussed plenty of Spurs Players that we've not even made Bids for. And how people here admired AVB, Levy, Baldini, etc.

Not to mention, the many Lamentations on how they've had a successful Window in relation to ours, and why we can't do the same.

I posted the Everton one, cause I thought it was just as Relevant. They've finished ahead of us for 2 Seasons now.

But it appears, that most think it's a Foregone Conclusion that we'll Leapfrog them this Year.

    Well I'll take heed.

Of the last two years our closest rival has been Everton, who finished ahead of us both seasons. Now I expect improvement in our side as much as any of us, however most of us will agree that 6th is our expected position in the league if nobody else signs. This seemed to be popular opinion here about a week ago iirc, spurs and arsenal being stronger teams than us.

If we were to finish ahead of either arsenal or spurs i think we would mostly all be delighted about it. However lets focus on whats directly in front of us without the presumption that we deserve to be in the top four simply because of our history. Rebuilding takes time, even with a city/chelsea type funder and we dont have that luxury either.

So if theres a chance that our closest direct rivals are about to become weaker or stronger, whats the problem writing and reading about it in the liverpool thread?

Are we as LFC fans to spend more of our time trawling threads and endless sites finding out information in tidbits, from other posters we have not yet figured out what agenda they might be peddling?
One of the main reasons most of us put up with the endless regurgitation of the same arguments is that there are posters here whose information and opinion like Raifs and many others, that can be trusted and taken in context of related to LFC.

Two of our closest rivals strongest players might be leaving them is exactly the type of information that every liverpool fan should be interested in hearing.

All of the above was of course IMO.

Edit* Of course 28m is never going to tempt everton to sell the two players that really pushed them ahead of us over the last couple of years. maybe 35m if they're lucky.

Sorry I got it wrong its 16 not 14!! But still.....

    http://www.irishtimes.com/sport/soccer/sturridge-s-winner-and-mignolet-s-dream-debut-gives-rodgers-plenty-to-smile-about-1.1498662

Simon Mignolet’s penalty stop from Stoke’s Jonathan Walters produced “the debut that you dream of” for the €10.5 million signing from Sunderland. In doing so he became the only Liverpool goalkeeper to save a spot-kick on his debut and the first to foil one in a league game at Anfield for 14 years.
The last time was August 28th 1999, to be exact, when Sander Westerveld thwarted Arsenal’s Davor Suker, with the 16 awarded since (not many, admittedly) all converted. A remarkable statistic that Mignolet enhanced with the follow-up, denying Kenwyne Jones with the rebound and his manager familiar torment.

Not strictly true that the 16 since were all converted. I remember Michael Owen missing against Chelsea in 2003 in the league at Anfield. Put it wide when we were 1-0 down.

For some reason the ref said that Cudicini was off his line and allowed a re-take though!

Can we not just ban stuff from Twitter being posted in here unless it's actually a verified player or the club posting.

Seriously, the amount of Twitter ****e in these threads gives me a headache.
