For the scratch cups, it's gross. Although there's usually best nett prizes too.

Always gross when talking about stroke, unless nett is specifically mentioned.

As per above scores are gross unless specifically posted as Nett. Home CSS 73; Visitors 75. So 71 not bad! One off the course record, as far as I know.

I thought you said DH was an extremely though course, those scores are very good for ISC, were they playing off the reds or something?

No just a couple of good scores.

40 No returns should give you an idea of how tough it is

Not really Matt, the no. of NRs in Medals and scratch cups in general are significant and generally speaking don't give us any indication as to the difficulty of the course, it's more to do with the conditions on the day and people's own perception as to weither or not they think they are in with a chance to win or get a cut.

Not sure they are great scores for an ISC. 2nd place was +12 and bearing in mind 11 handicappers can play in it then i would not call that good scoring.

Also 1st nett was 73 which is not good to win a nett prize in any competition unless there is a storm.

DH is very tough, was a member there for a year and found it difficult to score on with numerous opportunities to lose a ball, long and very difficult greens. It is an enjoyable (but also frustrating) challenge.

Just a reminder of the Inter and Junior SC in Wicklow this Saturday. Weather is looking good and there is still plenty of space in the afternoon on the timesheet.

Intermediate Scratch Cup in Tullamore Golf Club this Sunday. Pretty full time sheet but still about 10 spaces if anyone is interested in playing.

How do these comps usually turn out. Is it a good mix of Inter and Junior handicaps or is it usually just all the hot shots out on the day?

The top prize is always the Best Gross but there are always Nett Prizes on offer too which gives everyone on or near the outer limit a chance on the day or at least as much chance as everyone else. So this usually means there is a good mix of handicaps in each.

Thanks. That's grand. Not too concerned with the prizes. Just looking to get an enjoyable round in with a possible cut. I realise I could still end up out with 3 lads off 5!

Sher all the better if you do! As in the other thread... people in general don't mind what the handicap or ability is of their playing partners - a dick is a dick, whether he is off 5 or 25 :)

Looking at the timesheet - there is a good mix of handicaps so it would be highly unlikely you would end up being out with 3 very low lads.

The course is in good nick, the weather looks good so put your name down and hopefully you will have an enjoyable round.

Have done so. I'm out nice and early. Love the course - always in good nick. I'll probably join next year.

Senior and Junior Scratch Cups on this Sunday in Gowran Park. Course in very good condition and President's Prize on day before so should be in top order. Very challenging course for anyone who hasn't played it before

Thinking of playing the open there next Thursday as I'll be up that neck of the woods. A definite knowing this.

Cahir Park tomorrow and Sunday ISS and MSS. Out myself at 7.40 in the morning.

Junior, Inter and Minor scratch cups in Blessington Lakes next weekend Sept 7th/8th. The course is in excellent condition at the moment and the greens are top notch.
