Watching the Barca game here and Fabregas has been incredible. There is not a hope Barca will want to sell him and he looks more at home in that team than he could anywhere else IMO.

Hopefully this makes it abundantly clear to whoever in the club is driving this saga that its over. Just move the fcuk on now and sign some realistic targets to improve our midfield before its too bloody late.

There was an interesting article about Rooney's agent Paul Stretford in the guardian today. It doesn't paint him in a good light and describes how he can lead his clients astray.
Wayne Rooney is a case in point. His agent, Paul Stretford, to use Sir Alex Ferguson's description, is "not the most popular man" at Old Trafford.

Yet Rooney sometimes appears to be in thrall of him. "It's like dad and son," as someone closely involved put it a few days ago. "It's nothing like the usual player and agent relationship." And Stretford, for the most part, is clearly used to getting his own way.

He is not someone I know well but I have been flicking through Stan Collymore's autobiography over the past few days and it offers his own insight into what it is like being a Stretford client. Published in 2004, shortly after Rooney moved to United, it also has some advice for the teenager. "I hope Rooney knows what kind of animal Stretford is," he writes. "I hope he doesn't fall for all the emotional ****."

Collymore remembers Stretford going from being "a thorough, professional, understated guy to this horrible parody of an agent", wearing a long Gucci coat and sunglasses and christened, behind his back, as "Toad" by the player's mates, because he reminded them of the character from The Wind in the Willows. That may sound fairly inconsequential. Yet Collymore also came to think of himself as "a doormat" as far as Stretford was concerned and, explaining why he eventually severed all ties, depicts him as a deeply manipulative character. "I had always done whatever he said. I said yes to all sorts of things, often without looking at them. I allowed the line between him being my surrogate father and my agent to become blurred. And he played on that big-time. He abused it. My relationship with him was unhealthily dependent and he milked it for all it was worth."

One time, shortly after Collymore had moved from Liverpool to Aston Villa, he says he took a telephone call from Stretford begging for money. "His business was expanding and he had calculated I owed him £80,000." Collymore says he ran some checks and worked out he did not owe a penny. "A couple of days later Stretford rang again. This time he was near enough in tears. He said: 'You do love me, don't you Stan?'" Collymore wrote a cheque because "that was the kind of hold he had over me".

This time, however, Stretford is not going to get what he and his client want. United, as the Guardian revealed last week, are not going to let Rooney join Chelsea, no matter how many roubles Roman Abramovich chucks at it or what the player and his agent cook up next.

I can't understand why we're still trying to sign Baines, why do we need 2 of the best left backs in the league

Contraeu is not in the Madrid squad tonight and has apparently told them he wants away.

    Worth a bid?

Don't really feel there's a need is there?

That and I don't rate him as highly as a lot seem to.

Hopefully real will get beat tonight and ronaldo will see the barca scoreline - realise he hasn't a hope of winning the league and comes back to united :P

    I should have said linked.

15 days left, how many transfers do people think will happen in that timeframe, if any?

    Absolutely not.

Coentrao is a shocking defender, seriously, it would be like buying a more expensive slightly more consistent Alex Buttner.

Looking at Chelsea today we are going to need a solid midfield against them,a game that Fellani for instance could be of huge benefit, hopefully he is in by then.

Anyone else impressed by the options they have? Oscar is a right player who will thrive this year

Andy Cole tells a good one about him
Stretford got to work, lining up Manchester United. He became a big part of my life. He got me a British record transfer to United in 1995.

I moved to Manchester and stayed at Stretford's house as he made me part of the family. I thought it was a generous gesture - I later found out that he had been deducting rent from my earnings.

Modric would be lovely. He looks like he owns the midfield.

I can only see Modric being anyway of a possibility for United if Madrid sign Bale, it's gone very quiet on that front.

I was listening to the Press Pass earlier on Talksport and the journalists on it were convinced that Bale deal is all sorted and it's just a matter of time before he goes to Madrid.

Watched both Barca and Chelsea today and I have to admire their pressing game, it really is top class watching that, forcing the other team to make a mistake.

I would say that I'd like to see United do that but I suppose we have to have a complete starting 11 before we start working on those things. At the moment we don't do it as much as I'd like and it's really only the two forward players that apply pressure, but hopefully when/if we sign a top CM we will have the whole team working as a unit.

For all Chelsea's pressing today though they only scored two against what looked to be a fairly poor hull side.. One of which was a fair howler by the keeper. Hope they never find that clinical finishing all season and we'll be laughing.

It is opening game and all though. Will matter very little next week. Nervous already.

That's precisely why we don't sell them Rooney. Torres was muck today and Lukaku will be under immense pressure when they start playing him. Shows how much they need Rooney really

Was torn between the two myself too but saw entire 1st half of Chelsea and last 20 and by no means did they look to be really threatening the goal bar an off the line clearance and some accurate long range stuff, their midfield was great though. Ramires and De Bruyne were great and I feel we will get overrun unless we sign someone or shoehorn Rooney in there. Need someone with an engine who can break up play.

Strikes me Chelsea got their 2-0 lead and that was enough, so they shut down and held that lead. Think you'll see that a lot this season; not exciting, but effective football.
