Liverpool are not trying to compete with utd though, they are a level above. The 4th to 5th position is where we want to compete.

A 4% conversion rate won't be good enough to get 5th. It will mean we will be back down in 8th again.

Yes but the striker with the best conversion rate in the league last year was missing today. I'm sure any teams conversion rate would drop considerbly if they were missing their main striker.

Poor aul Reina was in with the Stoke fans today...

Must have been like seeing your missus banging your neighbor for him...looks devastated.

Yeh you're right of course, it's just one of my pet peeves about this place and I lost the run of myself.

Suarez is nowhere near having the best conversion rate in the league.

Teixeira joining Bologna on loan is great news. Hopefully he gets plenty of games.

Thats how to get the fans on your side.:D

Had the match on at work but could only see bits and pieces of it. Missed the penalty but looking at that gif gave me goosebumps. Love that passion.

Did the camera go to Suarez very often? How was his body language for the goal or the save??

Also, how did Lucas look? Heard he played well but was it Lucas pre knee injury good??

Is Premier Soccer Saturday not on RTE this season ?

No. They said that the 1.5 million (IIRC) that it costs to air was too much in terms of cost cutting etc. Setanta have a highlights show from 20:30 tonight.

It's a real shame. I really liked their coverage.

Love how in that .gif everyone is going mental celebrating, then cause of Mingerz they all get their heads together... Its just game one, but great start...nice break from the monotony of bleagh were used to....

Meanwhile in the Arsenal thread, I popped the head in for a lurk....stuff I'd expected in here today!

If we won comfortable, many would have paper over the cracks like Wenger would have done. I think in the long run it was the best thing to happen to us. Wenger is under pressure so he has to splash the cash and fan's won't accept another failure. Now will he buy great talent is another question altogether.

Suarez is nowhere near having the best conversion rate in the league.

Opta stats from last season indicated that Suarez was the most reliable 'big chance' convertor in the Premier League, sticking away 53% of such opportunities. For comparison, Robin van Persie knocked in 43%, Michu 46%, Romelu Lukaku 38% and Edin Dzeko 37%, while Olivier Giroud was way down at 17%. The definition of exactly what a 'big chance' is isn't made clear by the stat chaps, but we can make a decent guess - the short version is that Suarez scores when it matters. He scores when Liverpool need him to.

    Setanta Ireland or Setanta Sports?

Lucas looked very good today, tidied up any loose balls and went in for a few heavy challenges. The midfield looked very good, even under pressure they passed the ball around nicely and constantly were making space for each other.

Ah lads, it takes 10 seconds to find highlights these days. Maybe a tad longer if you want find it in English :)

Nearly 4 minutes worth of highlights in decent quality, albeit in Chinese.

I would have previously called it Setanta Ireland but my UPC box is calling it Setanta Sports. I don't have any sports subscription, so I am quite sure it's the basic one.

Thought that myself at first, but look at the pic about 2 posts above, then look at the gif. Toure is the one to pull at gerrard and get Ming's attention as well. I think Stoke were going for a quick corner. Either way, the 2 of them kept a clear head to make sure everyone got the finger out for it.

Good team to go to as they do try to play (attacking) football.

Think I saw an article on Sky using the stats you're referring to niallo, so I wouldn't disagree with him being the best at converting "big chances". In fact, I'm positive that that stat (and you) are right. However, that's not the same thing as being the best in the league at converting chances (of any size :P) which is all I'm contesting.

FWIW, my understanding of a "big chance" is that it's one which occurs in a good goal scoring position, although again, that sounds fairly arbitrary.

Toure looked like an absolute train running forward up that time looks to have serious pace (and I don't mean just for his age).

Ah it's not the same, it's nice to sit down and watch all the games and the analysis and I always preferred premier soccer Saturday to match of the day along with it being on earlier.

What Daniel agger was at today for that penalty was unbelievable absolutely shocking defending which nearly cost us 3 points
Just like last year stupid lapses of concentration could undo 80 minutes of hard work.
Keeper got Daniel out of jail but a kick up the hole the chap needs stupid stupid stupid defending.
That out of the way liverpool were great value for the 3 points and only for the usual motm performance from the visiting keeper could of had 5 or 6
Looked lively going forward and great to see Lucas back to his best
Another frustrating thing how many times did Sturridge slip today surely he had the right boots on!!!

Ya your right he has not the best at converting chances but i was making the point that any team missing their best striker will struggle converting chances.
