Some people in here are acting as if today was the last game of the season and Danny picked up the golden boot with that brace, there's a long way to go and anything can happen. He could be muck for the rest of the season now or he could continue on his good form of late and prove me wrong.

Some people, like yourself, have described him as a mid-table footballer and not good enough. The way some people were acting the last two weeks, it's as if he's a cross between Colonel Gaddafi and Ali Dia with the way he played last season. His form was decent last year too but some are just too blinkered to see what he adds.

Also he's got fúck all to prove to you. He's a United player, and a good one at that.

Genuinely, the way you phrase that last line it's as if you'd rather we lost and he played ****e just to prove you right.

Why is a full below par season not enough to criticise him for but one good performance is enough to vindicate him? It was a man's opinion no need to be obtuse about it. Im sure you have somewhat unpopular opinions without people saying

He's had more than enough criticism for last season, at some stages criticism of Welbeck was all there was on here.

Can we not for once focus on the positives? I don't see anyone saying tonight's performance makes up for last season's goals record, simply that it was a promising performance from a young player who has a lot more to show.

Not a great display from UTD but the 3 points is the most important thing. It will take a few weeks for the team to get into full EPL mode

    Pro's
    1. The win.
    2. RVP is class and has picked up where he left off last season.
    3. Welbeck looked good and doubled his goal tally for last season.
    4. Val got an assist, he is still not beating players with the ease he used to but signs of improvement.
    5. We can still not be at our best and win.
    6. Moyes has got off to a good start.

    Con's
    • We could not get a touch of the ball or hold onto it in the opening 20 mins.
    • The ease which Swansea went through our midfield, especially in the first half.
    • Clev looked out of his dept and didn't offer us much.
    • The scoreline slightly flattered us.
    • Giggs starting and playing in the hole, although a legend he is 39, he should only make cameos really.

I wasnt trying to further criticise him? I was responding to a post where someone obtusely refuted someones opinion on Welbecks poor season last year as "****e" because he was good today. He scored a sheer class goal today and was well placed to score another and im sure everyone wants him to do well. But going on as if this is the usual Welbeck and all the criticism aimed at him was baseless, whilst also being ignorant is what I was responding to.

No that's not what I said if you look back. I refuted the point that he's not a good player, not good enough for United and might do a decent job for a lower table side. I think, and I still think, that people fail to see what he does well and he got a ridiculous amount of stick over the summer.

If I was being ignorant then I apologise, but reading the criticism of the lad on here pissed me off over the summer.

You do know that his best goal scoring record is at a mid table PL team yes?

At the end of this season I'll look back and decide for myself if Welbeck has had a good or bad season, I'm not basing this on one game like you did earlier. That's just bullsh*t really.

Don't know if I'm the only one who thought Welbeck was ok last year, couldn't score at all, but his all round play was decent.

And there's more nonsense. You're digging a hole at this point, don't put words in my mouth that I didn't say.

Fúck him. We won 4-1 away to a good team on the opening day of the season, I'm not going to let Rooney's childish sulking put a dampener on that.

I didn't mean you were criticising him, just that nobody was claiming today's game vindicates him for last season as you said "one good performance is enough to vindicate him?".

Look at this. Val to leave

So Welbeck - Championship standard, not good enough eh?

Fúck off. And don't spout that shíte again.

Top the league, we're here to stay.

This post does insinuate that, it was posted right after the final whistle.

Valencia is never mad for the celebrating. Rooney is usually one of the first there.

I thought it was clearly obvious that he wasn't himself. Glaringly obvious.

That post to me is about Welbeck's quality, not last season's performance. I'd agree with it, as in, he's better than Championship standard and is good enough for the Man Utd squad.

What did Moyes call Geoff out on?

Some things don't change and the fact that I still don't have a clue what our manager says is one of them.

He made a joke about his phone going off during interview.

Let him sulk ,if he wants .Unless United can get in two top class players between now and the transfer window closing Rooney shouldn't be sold and there is no way in hell he can be sold to a domestic rival.
For a player who wants out he still put in a decent performance and I would hope he continues that.Unless a foreign club comes in with a 40m bid he should remain a United player .Its in Rooneys best interests to knuckle down, get fit and get back into the starting xi as the club have said he ain't for sale and I hope they stick by that.

Oh so now you'll evaluate it later? Yes, I'm fully aware of that. He was also playing up front. And he was also playing for the entire season - not 17 starts or so on the wing as he was for us.
This post does insinuate that, it was posted right after the final whistle.

That's because you and me differ on opinion of what he's done so far for United. I think he's done well, and adds to the team. You don't think he's good enough. My response after the final whistle was such that he has nothing to prove to anyone. He does a job and he does it well and he has a high ceiling in terms of potential.

But go on, I await one bad performance for him to be slated again.

Phil doing some extra work with Anderson:

    Jonathan Northcroft ‏@JNorthcroft 1h
Dream stuff for Moyes on debut. A nightmare now for Anderson. In an empty Liberty, Phil Neville is making him do 50 yard shuttle runs.

    Jonathan Northcroft ‏@JNorthcroft 58m
"All the way!" shouts Phil. Anderson's face is a rictus.

can we all calm down a little bit
    • Our 22yo CF/winger scored 2
    • RVP is already scoring potenial goals of the season
    • we won 4-1 away to swansea on the opening day
    • Rooney put in a good shift despite seemingly losing a a;ot of respect from the players
    • Moyes won his first game

while we were far from perfect but if we get that midfielder we need we will be very strong considering this game was without Nani/rafa/and a match ready rooney

    I'll ****ing take it

We drew with Swansea last year so 3 points today is very welcome.

More positives than negatives. RVP was sensational.

Loved Evra bit of skill by corner flag.

Thought it was good solid performance. Welbeck was cause for Swansea goal.

But its 3 points and was solid display.

Just other slight negative is some of our passing was little slopppy, but hopefully that will improve for next week

    That is not actually true.

Yesterday I thought you were misjudging Welbeck on his current ability and how the things he has done are an indicator of how good he will be, I didn't bother having a go at your opinion as I thought Welbeck would prove you wrong anyway. But to be fair to you his performance today is not enough to prove you wrong.

Highlights of Swansea v United starting on Setanta next if anyone missed the game...

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 18,762 Mod ✭✭✭✭DM_7

Am I the only one who thought Rooney was looking lazy and disinterested when Swansea had the ball :o

I won't go into meltdown over it, since we know there are issues and hopefully they will get sorted soon.

Very happy with how things went overall. It will take time for the defence and midfield to get used to playing Moyes way when defending. On the plus side on a number of occasions when the ball was put into the box Uniteds back four were all close together, Carrick got close to the centre halves as well and it was going to take a brilliant pass to get the ball to the forwards in the air. So that was a positive. The pressing at times was very good.

Good variety in attack. Worked the ball well out wide on the left. Welbeck and Tony V came inside leaving room for the full backs so when Rafael is available it will be very interesting.

Apart from the obvious RVP and Welbeck performance it was great to see Valencia and Vidic playing well today.

Ferdinand was the man of the match I thought today. Outstanding from early on.
